Why couldn't Victor have called the SEC commissioner himself

So why couldn't Victor have called the SEC commissioner instead of Michael? That one layer of separation really wouldn't have made any real difference since it is well known that Michael is Victor's lawyer. Victor certainly has been hands on in many other things including working with an SEC guy in trying to set Genevieve up in Japan and the similar thing with Victoria when he had her arrested at her first wedding to Billy.

I don't get WHY Michael was supposed to call the SEC. I mean, what was he going to say to them? "Let Victor go"? I hope this isnt' the end for Michael and Lauren..they are the only good ones left! Everyone else has been divorced so many times and all...it is getting gross in GC!!! I just don't get why Michael didn't defend himself. Why didn't he tell Vic what happened with Lauren? Victor will just hire what's her name...Phlyiss sister. He can't be without a lawyer!
