Had an early start Sunday morning as i had chores to finish. As i was finishing the dishes.. i went over to get the pitcher which was on the sink, i was about to put hot water in it.. when i peaked in and saw a BEETLE inside it and it was alive. I called my kids who just woke up and told me what i have found. They were delighted because a week ago we saw this episode in NatGeo where they feature a Kwan festival in Thailand where the main event were Beetle Battles.. the people there would really prepare their beetles for the battle! It was educating watching them that, the fight is usually for mating, its like may the best man win.. anyways the kids were really delighted, we set down the beetle and put it in the pavement..it was nice looking at my kids delighted over the creature and they were scared to touch it..( i am too lol) but hubby encouraged them to touch it and not be scared while teasing me as i do not like touching bugs.. hahaha But i am proud of my daughter as she didn't get scared and touched the beetle as it was getting away, she even want to keep it and wants to name it SPIKE ( and we had previous pets named SPIKE - i do not know why she love using that name) anyways i told them not to keep it as they have short life spans, they need to fully enjoy their life as beetles...and yes we set it free... i have its pics but have not uploaded it yet though.. it was in my hubby's mobile.

Oh yes, i saw street children having beetles battling one another in the ground . Or they will have spiders on a piece of walis tingting ( broom stick) do their piece of fighting too. But at the end of it, they should indeed be freed.

Indeed they are for the boys to play, but when you are a child , you tend to go with the boys always , when there are no girls around. Yes, they put them in match boxes.

hi jazel__juan oh that sounds fascinating and it would be also for children, I personally hate to pick up bugs too. brrrr. but children are more basic. so they fight for their mates that really is interesting. Will love forward to seeing a picture of it.

I am not afraid of small beetle I can touch those ones, but I am a bit scared with the bigger ones and the ones with horns. My kids are not afraid of beetle especially my youngest one who really loves insects and also made those ones his pets. I remember when I was a kid, I like spider battle

Nyaa...That's so cute! Your family seems to have bonded well because of your 'little visitor'. When I first read your title, I immediately remember the battle of beetles during summer, which is the current season in my country. :D I remember when I was younger, I used to play with them too. I'm a girl and beetles don't scare me, but cockroaches is another story. ^^
