I am not really sure- it depends on the writer, some young adult books are still thick, most novels are still thick, or maybe it is because the font size are big and it is hardbound.

Yes maybe, but I guess the thickness of a book do not necessarily mean they are good books. There are some pocket books which could be considered very thin in pages but the author have put all the necessary thoughts he/she wants to share to the readers.
Yeah, sometimes we need a break from our computer and instead read an interesting book.

Part of the reason why books aren't as thick is because every page cost money to print. Publishers who are footing the bill normally have strict standards about what size a book should be. The average reader usually gets intimidated when a book is too thick, I myself like a nice thick book, but only if the story is really good.

I can see the logic in keeping a book to a standard size. Some of the classic were much too wordy, and they probably would become best sellers again if the language was made more contemporary. We live in a world where thousands of gigabytes of data are at our fingertips so the world has developed a bad case of Attention Deficit Disorder.

I think it depends on who you're reading. I think that most bestselling authors tend to get away with thicker and thicker books. Take J.K. Rowling for instance, once she realized she held the billion dollar jackpot... I assume she told the publisher what she would cut.
Sometimes I like reading big long books, but lots of times I'll be in the mood for a short novel I can finish in an afternoon. It just depends. And if I like the story, I'll keep reading no matter how long the book is.

I'm the exact same way. I love a book that I can literally get lost in.

Yeah, reading is really a great way to improve yourself..it can also increase our knowledge.. but i haven't really noticed the book thinning since those books i buy are mostly thick enough for me.. Though some authors really have different thickness of book, i guess...

Reading maketh a man ,I love reading .But the books these days do not have much content these days ,I remember reading The Readers Digest ,The illusrrated weekly, Femina ,Women and home and many more during the seventies all of them were a delight to read , but nowadays they hardly have anything worth reading , how I miss the old days .

Hey,chymez-me,thanks for share and i suppose you are right.Maybe the plot and how the story goes is the really attractive thing for us when reading. This really helped us gain a lot knowledge and also enrich our social experience in the book.
