I dont know when did WWE started this if you will notice the wrestlers hired in the last 3 years dont use their real name, whether they were male or female. We still have established wrestlers that uses their real names as ring names but now most new wrestlers and wrestlers under developmental leagues like NXT and FCW....doesnt use their real names. WWE gives them ring names that WWE copyright owned... because in a way if the time were they will leave WWE comes, they wont be able to wrestle under that name if they go to TNA or Ring of Honor.
wrestlers like Kurt Angle,Mickey James,Jeff Hardy and Gail Kim are having careers in the rival wrestling company TNA. Their names are still relevant because thats the name they used in WWE.Their real names.
Wrestlers like Carlito,John Morrison and Vladimir Kozlov cant use the names that makes them famous in other wrestling companies and non wrestling gigs cos WWE owns their ring names. Wrestlers with copyrighted ring names have to change their name/character and once wwe fired them/ends contract or quits wwe.
WWE wants all newly hired wrestlers to use a screen name given to them, so once they got fired or released.... they will be nameless, and if they move to another company they will be back to zero.
The names they were giving though are kinda terrible.....
every wrestler in the developmental leagues are not using their real names. Its now a mandatory thing to have an alias.
---
I cant believe WWE takes this name issue now. newly hired wrestlers being forced to have those screen names.

Well they have no choice , wwe wont sign them if they dont use the ring name they will give him/her. Wrestlers who uses their realnames kinda damages wwe a bit because if they move to another company, they can steal some ratings for that company, Its hard to believe but a name can be a big deal.
Real name users are doing well in other companies after wwe fired them while the ones who used the copyrighted names will start from scratch.

Hi,there~
Didn't notice that until now. I don't watch WWE a lot, most of the time I watched it with my bf. He's a huge wrestling fan and sometimes he'll show me the matches which have the Rock and CM Punk in them. I love these two guys. LOL~
I would say I can understand why WWE did it. But yeah, making it mandatory doesn't sound very good. But if the wrestlers are fine with it,it shouldn't be a problem.
If we do like a wrestler,we would follow him/her wherever he/she goes,right?

they will start over again and though fans may recognized their faces but the casual fans wont remember them much. Not all Indie,TNA and ROH fans dont watch wwe so they will have a hard time to build up them selves under their new name or real name A(a lot of wrestlers uses their real names after getting fired)

The rock, I think owns the name "the rock" now, I think he purchased it to wwe so he can used it as a movie screen name. If an alias using wrestler gets big, one of the things they have to do is to buy the copyrights of that alias so once the time comes, they can still use it.
if those wrestlers are smart, while they are still in contract, they will save money cos they dont know when will wwe gets rid of them. They need money so they can earn that name back. most of them though starts over being nameless.

what can you say, they got smart.
some of their big names angle, hardy, nash(what happened to him)steiner found another job after they got fired/retired but doing very well.
now they dont want the same happening again everytime they fire somebody.
just out of curiosity.why did they fire people like hardy when he started getting pops as good as cena?
he was terrific on his final days in wwe.

I do get where WWE is coming from with this one protecting their intellectual property and all. If something unforeseen happens and John Cena or Randy Orton leave or have some kind of falling out over the company(not going to happen but work with em), then their name value will carry on elsewhere, wherever they go. It does go back to that mentality that Vince McMahon and the higher management it WWE doesn't want anything that they didn't create, including the names of wrestling.
I can only imagine what would have happened if this policy would have been in place about ten years ago or twenty years ago. On the one hand, a change in the wrestler's real name to a stage name can be good. For instance Randy Savage is far better and more memorable than Randy Poffo. However, we could have been living in a world where Bret Hart was named Francis Morterwald or something absurd like that.
Granted, anyone who is trying to get into WWE right now would be best served having some kind of screen name in mind. And make sure it was one that is going to stick in the minds of the fans and in a good way. They don't want to get saddled with something that ruins their career for life, like Braden Walker or something along those lines.

Francis Monterwarld LOL........ that name sounds cheesy but everyone in the FCW roster and even NXT roster have those weird ring names, they sound so ridicolous but they have no choice but to use them. Can you imagine, those names will be the future of wwe once Cena and Orton retires.

they dont hide their names, wwe gave them names that they will use as long as they were under contract. But once their contract ended or they got fired they cant use the name that makes them famous anymore cos wwe owns it,unless they will buy it with an ammount of money.

yea but some wrestlers ring name were kept when they go to WWE like CM Punk which is his ring name since he started and Hulk Hogan which he still using at the present.
WWE always change the wrestlers name for marketing purposes and also for the gimmick that they portray like The Undertaker, his real name is Mark Calaway. Imagine if he wrestles under his real name.

Cm Punk is able to keep that name because he joined wwe before that new rule bis applied. Look at everyone on NXT and FCW, Those are newly hired people.
