Today there was an article about Bhutan in my local newspaper. It was interesting to read about the country, but I don't think it is one of the countries that I am going to visit. It sounds too expensive for my budget, and it impossible to visit Bhutan as an independent traveller. You are not allowed to travel around your own, it is compulsary to pay for a guide. Your guide will pick you up at the airport and you and your guide will spend every day together. To enter Bhutan you need a visa and a letter of invitation, and I am not sure how complicated it is to get those things. I guess that Bhutan will be one of the countries that I will only read about.
Have you read any interesting articles about travelling recently? Which country did you read about and did you learn something new?

I read that it is cheap in Burma and many more people visit Thailand than Burma. I was reading that Tony Wheeler, the man that started Lonely Planet, visited the Republic of the Congo against safety advice. He said for wildlife watching it didn't have a waiting list like Rwanda did. He mentioned that it is a great place for the experienced traveler. I often dream of visiting Russia and it is challenging to get a visa to visit there.
I have seen pictures of Bhutan and it looks stunning with its buildings and mountainous landscape. It would be a great place to visit between Nepal and China. It is out of the question due to each day coasting at least $200. I am an independent traveler and I like to travel around on my own without a guide. I do not think getting a letter of invitation would be easy. Getting a visa can be quite a hassle. I don't imagine I will ever visit Bhutan.

I looked at a web site to see how easy it would be to visit North Korea after seeing a fascinating program about it. I was shocked to see the prices of the tours. I think it would be too expensive to visit Bhutan for three days. It would feel similar to a page I once read: 14 days in Japan costs the same as 67 days in India. I have thought about visiting Russia twice but couldn't do to the challenge of the visa system. I was in Helsinki but it was no I can't afford it. Then I was in Tallinn and it was no it is too difficult to do. I think it is annoying that a traveler can't enter Burma overland. He or she must fly is bothersome. I know that the rest of South East Asia is fantastic for overland journeys like Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Also Thailand to Singapore via Malaysia. I think that due to the Philippines being in the sea it is worth paying for a flight to there. It is lovely that you are a voluntary language teacher for a family from Burma. I travel with my disabled son and if he suffered a shunt problem I would need to be somewhere with excellent medical care. For that reason I like to be near to a suitable hospital. Some countries have better medical care than others. I wonder what it is like in Burma. Up in Bhutan the landscape would be mountainous and an ambulance might not be fast due to that.

North Korea is an expensive place to visit. I have also read about some of the organized tours, but they were too expensive for my budget. There are a lot of rules that you have to follow if you want to visit North Korea. You are not allowed leave the hotel without your guide and there are many restrictions about photography as well. I read a travel blog by someone who visited North Korea, and he wrote that one of his cameras was taken away from him at the border, but he got it back when he left the country.
My husband really wants to visit Japan and we are plan on visiting Japan together one day, but we need to save up a lot of money for that trip. I think that it will be an interesting country to explore, but it not our first priority. We want to visit some of the less expensive countries in Asia first.
You wrote that you wanted to visit Russia when you were in Estonia. I wanted to do the same thing. I visited Narva (a town in the eastern part of Estonia) Part of that town is Estonian and the other part of the town is Russian. I really wanted to cross the border and visit the Russian part of the town as well, but it was impossible without a visa. I went to the border and I was able see Russia, but I couldn't cross the border.

I am interested in visiting Burma, because I am voluntary language teacher for a family from Burma and they have told me about their country. Unfortunately Burma is one of the countries that you can't visit without a visa, so that makes it a little complicated. It is not possible to take take a bus from Thailand to Burma, because you are only allowed to enter Burma at the airport, so a flight to Burma is the only option.
I think that they Republic of Congo would be an interesting place to visit. I have read that the wildlife in that country is amazing. I would be worried about my safety and because of that it wouldn't be my first choice, but I think that it could be an interesting country to visit if the safety situation improves. I also want to visit Russia, but you are right it is not easy to get a visa. I am thinking about taking guided tour in Russia one day. I don't like guided tours and I prefer to travel on my own, but I think it is would be much easier to get a visa that way.
Yes, it is really expensive to visit Bhutan, and that is the main reason I probably won't be able to visit that country. I don't like the idea of travelling around with a guide. I prefer to have the freedom to explore the country on my own, but in some countries for instanse Bhutan, Libya and North Korea individual trips aren't allowed. It is sounds complicated to get a both a visa and a letter of invitation. I have never visited a country where I needed a letter of invitation and I am not sure exactly how it works.

We have soaps here that Philippine local actors are leading but the story and the place where shot in Bhutan. They are also speaking in Bhutan language but already translated here in our language. Maybe the soaps are also viewed in Bhutan also. I think the place is great I want to see true palace someday.

It is interesting that the soaps are shot in Bhutan, that way you can get an impression of the country without going there in person. I have only seen a few pictures in the newspaper, but it looks like a beautiful places. Unfortunately it is a very expensive place to visit, so I don't think that I will get the chance to go there. I guess I will just to have to read about the place or look at the pictures.

I heard also heard about the escalators that they recently got. I read in the article that there are no traffic lights in the entire country and tv wasn't introduced till 1999. It was actually the last country in the world that got access to tv. Before 1999 both tv and internet were illegal. There are no fast food chains and no backpacker hostels, only expensive hotels. I think that it would be a very different experience to visit Bhutan, it must feel like stepping back in time...

I also wish that I had a lot of money to spend on travelling. Even with my extra jo it takes me a long time to save up the money that I need in order to travel. I still don't have all of the money that I need for my trip to Asia, so I am going to work 7 days a week during the summer months. I really hope that I will be able to travel this year. Which places would you like to visit if you had the money?
