Internet problems today

Is something going on out there around the internet? One of my favorite sites has been down since yesterday because of unscheduled maintenance. They are trying to bring it up and members are kept updated.
My internet is working really slow and I keep getting a message about web pages not responding. A member in another forum writes about having internet issues today and not being able to load pages.
On Sunday, several hundred of us had a problem with trying to update our Facebook pages.
Is anyone else having internet problems today or in the last couple of days?

lol.......summer is here and students are out of school. Beware, the participation on the internet will increase dramatically, and may cause many issues with loading, servers, etc. I've noticed over the years that summer time is always a change in the internet. Many more people are on especially during what is called peak hours. For some sites, they do not have the servers to handle the change. So until next fall, we all may see slower action on the internet regardless of the speed of access you have from your IP provider.
I've always noticed a change during holidays like Memorial Day and Christmas vacations. It just is the way it is. Many sites just aren't built to handle an immediate change like happens.
I haven't been on as much the last few days because of the hubby's illness and hospital stay. They told me today the CDC is involved because he has a contagious disease. It is a pretty common one and I think it is easy to control at home as long as he takes certain precautionary measures. Unfortunate partly of the problem lies in the use of antibiotics and them taking all the good germs out of the intestinal tract. So, because of it being contagious, I have to wear special protective clothing when I go to see him. Wish they posted it on his door before someone enters, but they don't. They should.
Thanks for the discussion!

Well, in Austin, we have a very huge student community during the regular school year. They would be heavily on line during the semesters. We have a summer session and many students but nothing like the regular semesters. So, we have less people on line in Austin from May until August.
Maybe I am wrong but I think something is going on out there that we have not been told about.
Thanks for your response.
Hope your husband continues to improve. Take care.

I wasn't referring to the college community who is always on line, but to the lower level schools and children. They seem to be the ones in the summer who gobble up the internet. As you know, there are more lower level institutions of learning than colleges and universities and these days, kids can't wait to play more on the internet than get to during the school year. Where you are is one very large university, but look around your area and I bet like everywhere, there are many other types of schools.. high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools. These days computers start with the very youngest, and I know because both my grandsons have been on computers since before they entered school.
In the Austin area, there are other things that probably can cause problems with the government capital of Texas. I just pray that the Federal congress doesn't decide to step into the internet and regulate everything because that will definitely limit the usage we now enjoy. They have been threatening to do it for a long time. Another of those political things we all need to make the folks we elect accountable for messing with.
Thanks, but for now, I cannot say he is improving since today they told me he has a contagious disease. He will be in the hospital for a while according to the CDC. I now have to wear protective clothing when I visit and wash my hands before I leave. Always a challenge of one kind or another.

I see what you are saying about the kids getting out of school -- those not yet in college.
Austin is also a booming community. That might be affecting the internet.
Next Saturday is The Belmont. I will post a discussion next Friday.
I hope the hubbie is well enough for you to both watch it. Go I'll Have Another! Wouldn't you love to see him win The Triple Crown. I would.

My internet seems too have gotten better since I began my discussion. I am still wondering if there has been an attack on the internet or on some sites.

The issues I have been having are within my own computer. Internet seems to be fine. I was doing some work related computer based training today and had issues though. I got online the first time about three thirty today.

As I told the person who responded just ahead of yourself, my issues seem to have resolved itself just minutes ago. There were definite problems all day. I wonder if it was my ISP. I do know that some others have also been having problems.
I am glad that my situation seems to have been corrected. It was running like it did before I added memory and upgraded -- ulcer causing slow. But it does seem ok now.

Hi bostophil, here schools are closed for a couple of weeks of holidays. Yeah, from the extremely slow internet speed compared to the one before means that a great number of students are getting on line during their holiday. I come across the trouble to refresh quite some sites that I open due to the heavy traffic. I even have to spend a few minutes to wait for certain site to pop up. The music I listen to is off and on most of the time as well. To avoid such problem and inconvenience I have no choice but to visit local sites that don't have many visitors
or visit less popular sites.
Have a nice day and happy posting

Yeah, I understand that how depressed it would be when the loading of myLot posts is slow as well as unsteady. I did lose my posts which I had spend my time and effort to accomplish just because of the disgusting slow internet speed a few times. Since then I better get my post copied before hitting the post comment button for safety purpose
I hate to type the same posts again. I had got my internet upgraded to a faster broadband packet and of course I have to pay more monthly to enjoy the smooth and faster speed
I hope you do enjoy steady internet speed after getting the software upgraded

My internet problems from when I first began my discussion resolved themselves. But yesterday, my internet was real real slow. It behaved just like before I added memory and upgraded.
I think that a lot of the problem might have to do with the number of people online or on a particular site. You are right there.
I did get two software upgrades from Apple and did upgrade both times. It seems to be working really well right now so maybe there was also a bug with my Apple software.

I've not really been able to spend as much time on the internet as I typically am because of the fact that I've got other things on my hands right now that are a lot more important than the time that I spend on the internet. However, I have been noticing that I have been having some issues with firefox for the last several days. It kept crashing on me and because of that I am typically using Chrome only at this point in time.

My internet problems seem to have improved since I began the discussion. It was really bad all day, real slow. And I kept getting messages from safari that the web pages that I was trying to access were not working or something like that.
One of my sites is down and I have been trying to access the site. They are working on getting it up. It seems like every time I try to access the site that is down, I have problems when I try to access other sites afterwards.
I, also, was having a lot of problems going to yahoo mail.
But like I said, it seems to have improved just recently.

I wonder if that one site could be under some kind of internet attack and you were catching spillover by trying to access it? Glad it is better now.

I am wondering that myself. The site is still not up but they are continuing to keep members informed. They went down yesterday afternoon so it has been a long time.
I have the top sites that I visit as my home page. Every time that I try to access the site that is having problems, I then have problems later with other sites, especially yahoo. If I do not try to visit the site, then I seem to have no or very few problems with other sites.
