I have always had a grand opinion about America but this link has disappointed me. I don't remember seeing a bed bug here for several years now. There are measures that take care of that if at all. The last I saw a bed bug was when I was a kid. What's happening?
Warning! The American BedBug Infestation is Spreading!

one discovery in one place does not generalize that the whole place is like that. bedbug may not common, but i am not going far in saying that it is spreading. if the place is really messy and unclean, then it may be spreading. it is time to clean and spray some anti-bug.

What I strongly feel is that people are not complaining and if they do then it is the duty of the US government to do something about it.

In the 1940's and '50's...Bed Bugs (Cimex)were a common pest, and people around the world became well educated about their existence and habitat's, as well as control, and at that time were eradicated with pesticides...that are now banned throughout the world. With their demise, also they lost their notariety, and people's memories were NOT refreshed! Now, we are facing a resurgence, as they have also become immune to the pesticides that used to be their demise! Common belief...they are only found in "unclean" environments. Not so, also found in some of the highest class places in the world! AND, interestingly enough...a mature Bedbug can live for up to a year without dietary supplement....so one could be hiding still in the luggage you brought home a year ago...just waiting! So....tonite, do notlet the bedbugs bite!

Surely they would have worked out alternatives. Probably people do not complain as they have become immune to having them around and do sleep tight!
This is a serious issue and needs government attention.

Me thinks...dear one, that the info that was sent to you..that appraised you of the infestation, is about 3 years out of date! 3 years ago, on the Eastern Seaboard of North America, there was another resurgence of this most notorious little bug, aka; "mahogany flat" (as it is not as offensive by that name)....there was a mad, mad scramble to eradicate this little terror, once again, people were re-educated, and enterpreneur's went to work...They discovered the BB's habitable climate was 70 degrees F. Machines were developed to blast rooms, environments, with deep-freezing air (no pesticides)and once again, the little pests were diminished! They are like ALL the other nasty little pests, they will once again evolve...and invade! My "little" knowledge of this pest, comes from research, I did, for an article for our Local little monthly magazine, as there was ultimate panic, should this army invade this small Island...LOL!

I am glad you are calling it BB because I remember one of the nuns asked us to use the word 'unmentionables'!only because it has the word 'bug' in it!
Here is another link that has been updated as late as May of 2012.

US cannot afford to have these 'unmentionables'

When I was a kid and schooling my mother had a problem getting rid of this pest but now I hardly see it anywhere. Surely US can do something about it, if they are earnest that is!
