Doesn't US Need To Be Responsible For Their Misconduct On Iraq War?

I am quite disturbed after watching a fact finding documentary regarding the Iraq War on my national television network. It is a wonder how in the first place America or rather the people namely George Bush and his merry men could be walking with murder for the atrocious call to war with Iraq which lasted 9 heart wrenching years. If memory served me well, I believe the world including America (especially) called for military action on Iraq because Iraq's leader Saddam Hussein was allegedly involved with the notorious terrorist organization Al Qaeda and that the country was believed to possess "WMD"- Weapons of Mass Destruction. At the end of the day, I had to ask the following questions: 1. Did the American and coalition troops found any "WMD" in Iraq? 2. Does Saddam Hussein had ties with the notorious Al Qaeda group? 3. Does Saddam Hussein 3. Was Iraq War really justifiable? I believe the answer to all the above is a firm "NO" , maybe not to some but it certainly is for me. I am sorry that I am unable to provide the video feed in English as this is a compilation done in my home country's language. But, I can assure you that everything in it could be cross-referenced with your favorite search engines for the supporting facts. How did America concluded that Iraq war was inevitable and justifiable? On what basis? Was there any due diligence on the MI6 top secret report from an Iraqi colonel that Iraq had "WMD" and could be launched within 45 minutes? Were there any facts that these alleged "WMD" were to be used to attack America? Even so, I do not think they would have had the capability especially when I remember watching how the Israels manage to defend against the Iraqi's SCUD missiles with their Patriot missiles. It is revealed in the documentary that the Iraq war news coverage, photographs and videos during the campaign had to be vetted by the military before they are being allowed for publication and airing. On the home front, I believe the press and television were quelled from covering the riots and protests against the Iraq War. Then, there was the remarkable rescue episode of Pte Jessica Lynch which at the end of the day was nothing but a Pentagon propaganda to justify the Americans going to war against Iraq. I am sure we are able to read from her Wikipedia and news interview on Washington Post that she denied that the Pentagon reports to be untrue and nothing factual. Then, there is the book by US most coveted war journalist Peter Arnett, who at the time of the Gulf War was the only reporter from CNN reporting the war as that was the only television network that was allowed to communicate to the outside world other than 40 other journalists who eventually had to leave Iraq due to the strict regulations from the war administration in Iraq. However, Peter Arnett refused to be used by the Americans when he revealed civilian damages caused by coalition's smart bombs, the misconstrued that there was an Iraqi high level underground network in the Al-Rashid Hotel (Baghdad) where it was housing all the journalists and the baby milk factory controversies. What a manipulative lot of dirty politicians and military commanders! So much about being factual and truthful? Also, it is a known fact that journalists during the war campaign were being restricted where they are fully allowed on 14, restricted on 7 and BANNED on 21 scenarios. At the end of the day, I am wondering along with the television presenter what can be actually be reported and if any of the releases were true, factual and non propaganda. Where is the freedom of press which the US talks so much about even today? Are the people in America ignorant? Doesn't former president George Bush along with his erroneous aides have to answer for their mistakes on the Gulf War? What does George Bush mean when he finally stood on the podium and said that he take full responsibility for his mistakes? Where is the war tribunal which his aides and him so deserved? Hello artemeis I share your wonder at how USA leaders can do all of this and get away with it. I continue to be both incensed and embarrassed by it.

Honestly, I hope that both the UN council and international crime judicial will take these errant parties to task just as they have been doing with war criminals like Hun Sen. I just do not think that their owning up is anywhere near comforting to all lives lost especially innocent civilians and friendly troops. Not forgetting, that the call for war was nothing but some hearsay and some political agenda.

I agree with you, artemeis. Unfortunately, however, I do not think that any of this will ever happen.

I really wonder what it really means when George Bush said that he will take full responsibilities for the errant Gulf War except to see him relinquish his presidency. Is that all? If that is what it means, I have to wonder just how easy it would be again for the US to go into war with another country without waiting for the general consensus of the UN council. Then, what? I don't think it will end - unfortunately.
