I was sitting in the back today, just minding my own business and suddenly there were a couple of bumble bees swamming around...I just politely got up and came inside. They were huge...and noisy...I am not sure they even sting you but I wasn't going to take a chance...I have been stung by a yellow jacket before and that was not fun.. Some people have had to go to the hospital from bee bites, wasn't trying to do that either.

Wow, you never been stung before? I haven't in a long time, but when I was a kid, I would get stung at least once a year. Fortunately now I found that if I or anyone I know gets stung, (that is someone who is not deadly allergic) I just get a slice of onion and place it on the sting, after the stringer is removed. The onion draws out the poison and relieves the pain..

Ironically I only got stung once since I heard about the onion trick, though it also works on wasps. I remember one year I was having I guess you'd call a driveway sale, (I have no garage and I didn't have my items in the yard...lol) Anyway, what I didn't realize is this birdhouse next to the driveway had wasps in it and next thing I know I got stung, so I told my husband who took care of the "problem" before any customers saw it and I grabbed piece of onion and it soothed the pain right away.. I remember when I first signed up here some had asked about home remedies for bee stings and when I mentioned onion, I couldn't believe their answer..This is paraphrased of course, but it was something like, "I won't waste me precious onions on a bee sting!" Jeez, only a little sliver, enough to cover the sting, is all that is needed, but I guess this member saw onions as gold or something...

I never have a chance to sting by a bee. It's been a long time since I saw a bumble bee,I used to see them way back during summer vacation in the province of my mom wherein we saw those bumble bees when we are playing outside the house.

I remember the day I was been allergic by a something who landed or bite me on my foot, I think it is almost 1 month ago. It was very scary and itchy, what more if it is a bumble bee.

I think i have been stung by something, but i don't thin it was a bee.. It was this small black insect that looked like a thin bee. It hurt, but i got hat i deserved since it was going into this hole and i covered the hole... good thing it wasn't that serious.

Many times as a kid. I am not allergic, so it was just painful for a while.

Yes I have a few or so times. I remember being a kid and taking a car ride to the cemetary one holiday with flowers in our arms, a bee was in mine and it stung me on my face. It hurt and stung for a while. That was my very first bee sting experience. Then I remember stepping on one in the grass one summer with no shoes on as a slightly older child. Then years later, one day while I was trying to touch the high grown sun flower (the head) in the yard one stung my finger. I sat on the toilet once and didn't see the wasp there, it stung me on my thigh. I just can't stand bees and anything that stings and hurts.

Yes, they do sting. Because they are probably the most gentle and docile of all bees, their sting is rare. They prefer to "warn" before stinging and that is probably what you experienced. They often buzz around those who they feel are a threat or a potential threat, most likely hoping we'll just go away. I've stood my ground with them before and they never stung me but, if they continue buzzing around me I'll move. I don't want to take the chance. They also have a smooth stinger which means that they can sting over and over again if they feel extremely threatened as compared to yellow jackets who have barbed stingers which is why they stay in our skin when we get stung by them. They lose their stingers and die but bumble bees can sting multiple times. So, I guess the thing to do is to not provoke a bee, no matter what kind.

Yes, I have been stung by the bee before and I got a fever on the next day. I wasn't brought in the hospital and it lasts a week. But i didn't care at all too. I just feel dizzy. It's dangerous to be stung by the especially if you have low immune system. :D
