I was dying?

Since night of 10th June, I am feeling totally exhausted, spent up, even when I go to toilet 15 steps away, my breathing rate goes high, I can feel my heart beating so high.
Yesterday morning this problem became severe, my wife and others all were near me; I rang my family doctor; he was said to be out so my son rang the emergency cell of the private hospital nearest to home; they advised to come there immediately; get admitted and deposit 200 thousand rupees, and have full body scan, ecg, echo cardiograph, tread mill test, lung capacity test etc done. If not I may suffer from a heart attack.
This reminded me of the ‘Satyam-eb-jayte’ (means-TRUTH ALWAYS WINS) program shown in TV, it shows how the doctors suck you; once you reach them, they will suck all your money and may drive you out in your under garments.
Some doctors may be so cruel.
Next with cool mind I rang my friend in Sakhigopal, he told me to measure blood pressure and pulse rate, well it was 150/90 and pulse 100 per minute, he told me nothing to be worried, the higher pulse was due to Tachycardia only; advised to take one tablet of DOXORIL 400, 2 times daily and take adequate bed rest.
He said it might be due to excessive acidity.

Today I am fine; now I remember I had taken 4 ‘Idlis’ this is made from paste of rice, no oil in it but steamed but as the rice is left soaked overnight, the taste is sour due to fermentation. This caused the acidity I guess.
Today I have taken 2 spoonful of Quaker Oats soaked in 250 ml warm milk.
Am thinking now if I were taken to that private hospital what would have happened?
Government hospitals are worst, you won’t find many doctors in duty hours, and they work in private hospitals but take not only salary but also ‘Non Practicing Allowance’ from government.
Do you have any program in tv like that?
What about private and government doctors there?
Please comment on my story and share your view.
Thanks in advance.

Hello my friend Professor2010 Ji,
Firstly, my hubby always bears 150-60/80-100 as BP. He takes regular treatment. If at all your BP rose so much and if you are not taking any BP nmedication, please do it. Being Ex Servicemen, we are members of ECHS (EX Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme)and as and when we get sick, we report including our emergencies. In think everyone of us at this age should become members of such health schemes and do not get cheated by priovate hospitals. Take care of your health.
May God bless You and have a great

Hi Uncle Professor, it is good to hear that you are feeling fine again. My mother is also having a serious diabetics condition where she is very sensitive to the food and even the water that she drink. When you are diagnosed as having diabetics, you must always take good care of the type of food that you take daily. A little extra of any food can caused you to be in a big problem with your health. So, you will need to pay extra attention to your daily food consumption. Hope you and Aunt Kalyni are always fine and well.

dearest professor,
i had the terrible feeling after i learned about it and i just cant help but be sad and afraid for you. i was advising that you go to the hospital because there they can check you thoroughly.
but then if you have a family doctor, he could be your doctor too in that hospital even if he is not a resident doctor there, right?
it is so hot nowadays and it could be heat stroke too.. we never know.
i just hope the doctors checking you will keep coming until you feel much better.
i send you my prayers and wishes. and get well soon.

I thank God professor that you are okay now.
Here in our place we also have a government hospital. But it's always filled with patients, so much so that others are in the alley way, with just a bed to lie down.
So if you seem serious, never ever go to a government hospital. Even if you pay a bit higher in a private hospital, at least there are doctors to attend to you at once.
And yes, you can also call your usual doctor that you are in the hospital so they can go there to check you up.
Take care professor. Eat only those that are healthy ones.

First, Professor, I'm so glad you are better. I would have guessed you have congestive heart failure.
Do you not have universal healthcare where it is all free? We don't have it. I have insurance (Humana) but I still have to pay a percentage of my healthcare. Docs are blood suckers. They take your blood and your urine and charge you to analyze it. They charge hundreds of dollars for CT scans and MRIs and other diagnostic exams. I need an echo but won't get it done because I have too many bills now.

Thanks for explaining dear Professor. Here we have Medicare for people disabled or 65 and above. I have Medicare and it pays 80 percent of my medical bill and it paid 100 percent of my physical therapy after my shoulder surgery and my two knee replacements. I have to pay the 20 percent. I don't like that, but that's life. It's better than paying all. I would die if I had to pay all.
Hugs to you and Kay.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better my friend, and this was nothing really bad to be worried about. Many times when you are feeling Bad a Doctor will try to tell you to go to an Emergency room or hospital when in fact a lot of times it is something that will pass. Just remember to keep being proactive like this, and try to do the Best you can. Praying for you.

Hi Professor, I am happy that you are feeling better now but it seems that you had a very bad experience. Although not perfect, I think that here in Canada we have one of the best health care systems in the world. About three weeks ago I awoke around 2am with chest pain and other problems. I called the Health Line, where a nurse evaluated my situation and insisted that I call an ambulance or get someone to take me to the local hospital immediately. While the nurse called ahead to advice that I was coming, a friend took me to the hospital. I was seen by a doctor in less than ten minutes and was given a needle for pain. The doctor quickly diagnosed the problem and wrote me a prescription to be filled at the local pharmacy. Not wanting to overlook anything, he also ordered blood work to be done. Two-three hours later, satisfied that there were no major problems, he discharged me to go home. There was no charge to me for any of this except the six dollars that I would pay for the medication at the pharmacy. I know there are times when the waiting time is much longer, but there is never a charge to the patient. If I had called an ambulance, I would have had to pay for that as well. Blessings.

Uncle, I am grateful to God that you are right. The doctors are money earning machines. If you collect information, you will astonished to know that the doctors are taking money for their daily expenditures from the medicine companies. From toothpaste to all till going to bed at night. Besides this they have other sources from labs, X-ray, USG etc. For these they are not looking into patients. For such behavior the patients are getting furious and beating the doctors. To overcome the situation, the doctors have to change the attitude, govt should take firm action.

Hope you are feeling better, Professor2010 - that sounded rather scary! Good you had a friend to give you immediate advice (and good advice at that). I hate that the medical world has come to this . . . are they really trying to help people, or are they really in it for the money? Every time I go to doctor's office or hospital, I see signs on the wall about payment . . . and the clerks always ask everyone how this will be paid for . . . it's ALL about the money first. I just saw a woman walking home from my daughter's school as always - but today she was limping rather badly. I asked her what happened and she said her foot is swollen is continuing to swell . . . the doctors do not know what's going on but recommended that she has an MRI asap. But she does not have insurance, so she is on the lookout for an inexpensive place to get an MRI done who will take cash. All about the money again. Sigh.

Namaskar Sir
Your ill health was a shocking news to me and I am happy to read that you are better today.
I havent seen that tele satyameb jayate but the next day it was on the newspapers when many doctors had objected and even some Medical Organizations (IMA) had objected and criticised the show.
Personally, I know some doctors from various parts of the country. Some are money suckers - like the ones at the hospitals here - they are never concerned about the patients, instead their commissions that they get by admitting and retaining patients at the hospitals. In Neelachal Hospital (where my Aunt was admitted)- they had a patient admitted for some surgery and it was more than 20 days the patient stayed without any surgery. Lastly the family took him away. And bills - above 150,000 INR (so surely doctor got huge commission). Many more such instances relate to my illness and its detection - I spend about 40,000 INR during 2000-2005 and none of the doctors could diagnose it was ulcerative colitis. When it was finally diagnosed, the doctors said - it was curable but if detected in early stages. today, I have to live with it all my life.

Have I heard it before?
I and my friend are complaining such things these days so whenever we feel bad we don't see our doctors. We take practical examinations and if it isn't working then that's going to be the exact time to spend money at the hospital.
My friend's grandmother felt extreme pain in her abdominal so she was rushed to the hospital, two days earlier for her schedule. But the staff nurse said that she'll be admitted until the said appointed day comes for her to scan and everything. My friend, who's a license nurse too, said that the family requested to do the thorough examination today, tough it's two days earlier. The family was ready to pay extra amount , even double just allow their mom to be checked.
And after that we talked about some agenda ..(1) the payment will get doubled if the operation or treatment isn't in the scheduled day . (2) And there'll be additional fee for every shoot that her grandma can get from any licence medical personnel.
Terrible!

I think this is not only the problem with the doctors but also with any other profession where we have to go for any help, especially urgent help. Every one is waiting eagerly to suck you. Go to a lawyer, he will suck you. So I think all these are due to rapid degradation in social values. There are still some people for whom the society is still now a place to live in. I hope ‘Satyam-eb-jayte’ will focus on all these evils prevailing in different professions. Last but not the least, it is a good news that you are quite ok now.
