My husband vs the Soda Stream

I won a Soda Stream a few weeks ago and it arrived via UPS today. I made the kids wait all day until DH was home to open the box. My 2 year old doesn't like soda and my 13 year old can't have it right now, we don't even keep soda in the house and are not soda drinkers; so you'd figure they'd be patient. Nope Dh came home and was half excited - as I said before we aren't soda drinkers - but he made a batch of root beer with the kids and it was pretty good and super easy. So he had the idea to carbonate coffee. So I lugged out our regular coffee maker, cleaned it out and made coffee. After it cooled, he place the right about into the bottle, pressed the carbonation lever down once and the entire bottle filled with bubbles. Now when we made the root beer he pressed that level 5 times and it was about as bubble as root beer, but there were very few bubbles. Can you see where this is going? lol In his infinite wisdom, he proceeded to add as much carbonation as he did to the root beer. Thankfully he listened and went outside before opening the bottle. As soon as he released the pressure, coffee went EVERYWHERE! He was covered, the side of the house, our daughter got splashed through the screen on the sliding glass door lol By the time the bottle settled there was maybe a half of glass off carbonated coffee left. After adding a splash of milk, and a smidge of sugar, I had a fizzy iced coffee. Next he wants to carbonate carrot juice

Thank G♥d for your husband's "infinite wisdom" mine would probably opened it in my kitchen.. Too bad you didn't get that on video, AFV ("America's Funniest Videos" for those who don't know), would probably have used that footage... Oh, I love carrot juice, but "carbonate carrot juice", I don't know. . . But if you try it, let me know what you think.

Oh, he was going to do that, but I convinced him to open it outside. it's a good thing too, he would have had an even bigger (and harder) mess to clean inside. I didn't know AFV was still on the air. Idk if I want to try carbonated carrot juice lol Fresh carrot juice from the juicer is already foamy since we have te centrifugal one. I would expect it to be loke sparkling apple juice. If he does it though, I'll comment again.

Oh, so it was your infinite wisdom and yes, I don't even want to think about the mess that would have made, sugary substances seem to spread and needs lots of water to remove.. My son still watches AFV and I assume they are new. Of course now that summer is here, they are playing reruns, so the new shows won't start up again until this fall.

Lol I meant it sarcastically when I was writing about him over pressurizing the bottle The good thing is with this machine you carbonate plain coda water - making soda water - then add any syrup. You have toral control over what you add to it. With plain coffee though, that can be hard to clean up depending what it splashes on. I thought he rinsed everything last night, but when. I went to fill the bird feeder earlier I found some coffee on one of the widows of the sunroom and the mat our 2 year old was standing on smells like coffee lol I'm thinking if he carbonates juice to make a weak juice, maybe 75% juice, 25% water to prevent the same thing from happening.

While I am enjoying your humor on such a mess, I can be the first to tell you that my son is a 100% coffee lover. I could see my son doing this too! THanks so much for the warning. We tossed around if it would be economical to purchase one as my husband drinks Diet Cokes and when I figured out the cost for the carbonation tubes and all the flavors you might want, we decided to stay with bringing home our 12 pack of sodas. now you HAVE to let us know on the carrot juice. Tell your husband he needs a Chemistry Lab

When I figured it out, 2 liters was roughly $.81. I'm not sure how many cans are in a liter. I think its fun to have but I am not sure if it really saves anything, but it does give yo control over what goes in your soda - which is nice. None of the flavorings have high fructose corn syrup in them and they do not use artificial sweeteners - even on the diet. My husband is one of those kids that had the chem lab, microscope, ect growing up. He is always doing experiments with food and out numerous kitchen gadgets.
