here in North America, i am reading a book about the group simple way.org and they ran vehicles on cooking oil which i thought was pretty cool but i don't think water will ever replace petrol.

Diesel engines can run on just about any oil type fuel..before the petroleum industry got the monopoly, peanut oil was one substance being considered! I like the idea of processing used cooking oil into a fuel,though..I saw a programme recently showing one biofuel business in London doing just that and having ready made customers with the Diesel engined Taxi Cabs there!

With the population growth as such as it is, I don't see how replacing petrol with water would ever be a good or sustainable idea. There are so many countries who already don't have access to clean drinking water. I have always said water will be the source of the next big war.

I'd like to see more simple, productive solar powered methods of producing drinking water from seawater..Countries in tropical regions with ready access to seawater should not be suffering drought with that resource nearby..

Hydrogen is a gas that can be made by breaking down a water molecule, the gas being a useful energy source.Unfortunately,at present,it takes energy to break a water molecule into Hydrogen and oxygen, which at our current level of technology requires electricity to do.So,it is not an energy efficient gas.It will need some breakthrough to come about to realise the dream of inexpensive, non petroleum based fuel..

Four years ago there was already an invention of a water-powered engine that would be proven to be more efficient than Petroleum. This is the link to the video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImGaraPrEo8 The only thing that is stopping us are politicians. If the company that has made this went commercial as well as making the end product more cheap, then perhaps we would have already saved most of the environment as well as money.

Hello loveistheonlytruth and welcome to the myLot :) I don't think that water replacing petrol is a weird idea at all. In fact, it's already been done! Steam powered Locomotives, steam powered automobiles and other steam powered machines existed well before petrol powered machines. I do believe that even nuclear powered craft, such as submarines, are technically water powered, as the reactors produce the steam to drive the turbines. To be accurate, petrol replaced water.

It's not a weird idea but I don't think it will be a really good idea to replace petrol with water completely.
