Prognosis for someone diagnosed with Devic's disease?

A close friend of mine (woman in her 40s) suddenly developed paralysis over the weekend and has been tentatively diagnosed with Devic's disease. I have looked it up on the internet and not much seems to be known about the disease, which mimics MS in a lot of ways. Does anyone have any reliable information about what the prognosis is for someone with this disease, and whether or nor she will regain the use of her legs? She is such an active person--coaches her kids' basketball teams, is a scout leader, the whole bit--it is such a complete shock to all of us that she has become incapacitated so quickly.
