BPA used in canned soups

I saw today on FB that someone was started an online petition to stop Progresso and other companies from using BPA in the lining of their canned goods. Now I knew we had to watch our plastic containers but now soup cans! I thought I'd share this in case no one else has heard of this, like myself. I'm glad I don't eat much canned soup, or any soup for that matter. However, doing some searches online about it I'm finding about more and more items we use everyday. It's a scary world out there! No wonder why everyone knows someone who has had cancer ect.

That's for sure. I know several and I wonder sometimes what the connection is. I think there are way too many things out there we are not aware of that are harmful!

I don't really worry about it, I'm going to die of something someday anyhow. I made most of our soups when my kids were growing up and now I'm getting away from processed foods. Have you seen the website thesimplemom.com? she has a recipe for "cream of" soups that you can make cheaper than buying them, usually. That way you can avoid those cans as well as save money! There's a lot of neat stuff on that site and I really enjoy her newsletter.

It's not just progresso, a lot of companies line the inside of their cans. This is why people really need to move away from processed food to minimal processed & homemade meals.

Pretty much any can that has that white lining has the potential to add BPA to our diet. Ironically they started using it to keep the solder in the seams of the can from leaching lead into our food.

Some places register tape has BPA in it. Some people who shop with us periodically do not take our receipt, and I wonder if it's for that reason. No way to tell if ours has any BPA in it or not. They say use glassware, buy your food fresh and chop it and store it in glass containers. So much we have to do to avoid it. Heck even the chicken and other meats we buy may be wrapped in BPA containers.

Well, a mylot search brought up enough conflicting information on the first page alone, about a chemical which has been in widespread use since the 1960's, and has never been a problem until a few newspapers got hold of a story. I wont be worrying about it. Some people don't want you to buy a particular brand of soup!

With the continuing innovation in technlogytoday, we are really scared that some of them will have adverse effect on our health. I never heard of the BPA used in canned goods. What I know nd one tip to share about canned goods, never buy distorted cans because the surfactant or the coating inside the can may be damaged and the can may be starting to react with the contents and possible oxidation may occur causing rusting of the can. So never buy distorted canned goods.
