My daughter had a rough time giving birth and the truth is, I thought she was going to have to have a c-section towards the end. I have to say that I was so impressed by her doctor and the nurses there at the hospital! Towards the end of the delivery they had my daughter up on her feet and the most creative thing was with a sheet. They tied a knot in each end of the sheet and had my daughter pull one end when she had a contraction and the baby's dad had to hold on to the other end and pull against her. Now that was a sight. Like tug of war. I thought for sure she would throw him all over the room. I pretty much held on to her and the bed. He did well though and really participated in everything. Have you heard of this tug 0 war method? Have you experienced anything creative from your doctor?

Hi JenInTN
Creative... Doctors
I am not sure. I think all the doctors whom I am in the company of get creative only after putting me under the anesthesia. When I woke up - the first time, they revealed I had Ulcerative Colitis, the next time they said - I will never have any other ailment but this (UC) and the most recent one - they told me - I have stones in Gall Bladder and kidneys too
Btw, I must say the doctors at your place are much better and seem to be genuinely more creative

Thesids!
Mylot has been crazy for the past couple of days...including this morning. I have only been able to access or post off and on.
I am very suspicious of doctors too actually. I was pleasantly surprised by this particular doctor and nurse combo. That nurse was even more amazing than the doctor. She was on top of everything and was able to calm the room when panic was setting in for everyone.
I am hoping that you will get some good news about your health soon. Those stones are super painful. Have you heard if they are removable yet?
Thanks for responding and take care.

The doctors at the GastroIntestinal hospital are quite likely waiting those stones to get bigger so that they can remove by surgery. But I have been in consultation with some Homeopaths (including one at MyLot - by the user name viji) and I have got some medicines which I know would remove these stones without me having to go for any surgery. Like you too, I do hope that I come up some at least some good news about my health which hasnt been so very good for over the past so many years now.

Wow! The doctors and nurses have probably done this afew times. Cool to have the mom and dad work together like this. One cool thing about my daughter's birth and her first child was that the same doctor was doing the birth of both. I was surprised to see his ID and had to double think myself. He was tickled to hear it too.

They must have done it a few times. The nurse knew exactly what the doctor wanted when she asked for the sheet. I bet dad was sore the next day too...lol. There was one time when they used the squatting method too. He held her from the front with her arms wrapped around his neck while I supported her back. They really did everything they could to avoid the c-section. I'm glad it worked.
I bet that was neat to have the same doctor twice like that. I think it's important to be comfortable with a doctor and if you can use the same one twice, that's great.

This too me does sound quite creative, and probably a Good way to save some money on their part as well. Considering the way insurances are with paying anything these days, I am sure this might be part of the reason they considered trying something like this. But if it seemed to help with the Deliver, maybe this is something that others could learn from and incorporate as well.

I know the doctor delivering was pretty big on the natural way if possible. We had been in there 24 hours before the baby was born. It was a very long day/night..lol. I thought that Miss Keely Jenn was never going to get here. I looked rougher than the mother before it was all over with.
Thanks for the response.

When she pushed, she used pulled against the sheet and he had to pull against her too. I had never heard of it either but that nurse knew exact;y what she meant when the doctor said to get the sheet..lol. She eventually collapsed back down and was in more traditional position but it helped her with the process.
Thanks for responding!

Hi nanajanet! It was definitely a creative method. They do a lot of different things since I have had my children. The bed even had handles built on each side for her to hold and pull on. I would have loved to have had those. I remember grabbing bed rails, hands, heads...what ever I could get a hold of..lol.
Thanks for responding!

I wish I had something positive to say about doctors but all the ones that I met when I got sick left something to be desired. I haven't gone to see ones in a few years as they almost killed me with their medications that didn't help and only made things worse.
Some years ago(about 36 years ago) when my second daughter was born prematurely and jaundiced, the doctors at the hospital wanted to give her a blood transfusion (which I don't believe to be good medicine), I did meet an amazing doctor. Now I'm not sure where he came from, even if he was a doctor or an angel. However he came out of the blue to suggest an alternative, ultraviolet light.
It did the trick and my daughter is 36 years old.
Yes, there are amazing doctors here and there. Glad that you had one of those when your granddaughter was born.

They are certainly very few and far between. I have not had nor do I have faith in doctors. I was so impressed by my daughter's that I just had to share the experience. The nurse...wow...she was amazing. When I saw her work, I knew she had found her niche in the world. I can not go on enough about that group.
I am so glad that you met one of those amazing doctors too. I believe that sometimes people are sent to us for reasons and it sounds like you met one of those.
Thanks for sharing your awesome story!

What a great idea? I have never heard of anything like that. Gets the hubs participating and gets Mum's mind off the pain of the contraction....maybe a lil bit.
When I delivered my first bub an older "sister" came to my head to whisper words of encouragement to me. I was on my side with one leg in a stirrup . I grabbed the woman with each contraction and used her to pull against while I bore down. LOL. I pulled her off her feet a couple of times, I knocked her veil off. I'll bet she never again got that close to a woman delivering her baby.

I bet she didn't get that close again..lol.
It really did seem to get both mom and dad involved..maybe sort of a bonding thing for them too...not like much more than a sweetie patootie can do..but it was a thought when I was seeing it.

Wow! I have never really experienced something that creative with a doctor or a healthcare person. However, I am amazed at the creativity of such a doctor and the patience.
Here in my country, most would just opt for a c-section not only because it's a lot easier but also because their professional fee for a c-section is higher compared to normal delivery.
Is the doctor fairly young or an experienced one?
I know for a fact that doctors or OB Gynes who are older and more experienced are more patient and would rather have a normal birth because they say mothers are more satisfied when giving normal births.
Have a great MyLot experience ahead! Congratulations as a new grandmother!

She was in her late 40s early 50s. I know if it had went on much longer she would have given her a c-section. It had been forever. I am used to doctor's out for the almighty dollar too and I was glad to see this one really had her and the baby's best interest at heart.
The recovery time for a mother who has a c-section is much longer than a natural birth. Cutting through all those muscles in the stomach area can make it very painful and hard for them to get back in the swing of things. I remember me and a friend of mine had a child within just a couple of days of one another. I went natural and she had a c-section. I was up and moving around within just a few hours and it took her almost two weeks to be able to move around decently.
Thanks for the congrats and well-wishes!

They wern't very creative 51 years ago when i had my first son. In fact if i had been able i'd got up & whipped the nurse who was in the delivery room w/me, lol. What a BIT** SHE WAS. i'M GLAD THEY HAD A BETTER APPROACH W/YOUR DAUGHTER.

I wasn't treated nearly as well as she was with any of mine either. I wish I had had a group like that caring for me. I would have liked to have gotten a hold of the last doctor I had and she very well knew it. She took off out of the room as soon as I delivered. The next day she stuck her head in and asked if I was still mad at her.

im trying to picture how the sheet would help her labor? its been 32 yrs since my last was born and 30yrs since i saw a birth. my first grandchild. things have obviously changed a lot. it seems more like the doctors are going back to more ancient ways that could have been a better way. like squating. thats how native women did it.@JenInTN (27514)

They said the squatting helped her more than anything. She would pull against the sheet as she pushed and dad pulled against her pulls. I guess it was just a way to help her with her pushing efforts plus put his little tail to work. I remember the doctor telling him that she was too old to be on the other end after all the years of delivering babies..lol..her shoulders were bad.

I have never heard of this tug O war method. It sounds very interesting. I bet it was exciting to watch. Different birthing techniques are emerging every day. It is all for the better for women going through difficult labor. Congrats on the new baby!

Wow, that was indeed creative way.
I haven't had such experience but your story is really wonderful.
My doctors are supportive anyway, and I thankful for them.
I had all my kids deliver thru c-section and all op were successful.

Congratulations on the birth of your grand-baby. Hope the new parents are recovering from their efforts. I have never heard of anything like this, but I don't have too many friends giving birth these days.
The most creative thing I ever saw a doctor do was use a hot paperclip to open a hole in my toenail to release pressure after I closed a car door before my foot was out of the way. The toe was so swollen it was threatening to push the nail away. I was amazed when the doctor heated a paperclip to redhot and then burned a hole in the nail with it. I guess I was expecting the lastest in technology.

Sometimes an old fashioned method works better than any. I wish I had heard that sooner..last year I closed my finger in the car door plus my b/f dropped a can on his big toe. Not very pretty sights..lol.
Thanks for responding and for the congrats. She is the apple of my eye.
