I've seen people who excel in their profession: being promoted, having high salary and given high positions in the company but they are working 8 hours or more just to stay on the top. I've also seen other people who are working smart. They choose and manages their time, they have financial freedom too but less effort. Would you dare to take all the risk for working hard or working smart? Who you think stand out best?

I have experienced both and done them in my actual field of work. The one that suits me the most is working smart. Being a person who likes to work only during designated working hours, has more time for myself, and less effort to perform effectively for my job. Yes there are times which I have to do OVER overtime, but because with proper time management, I actually have time to enjoy and have some leisure time for myself and with people I care the most.
Before when I was working hard, I was stressed alot, and I had to maintain such a difficult schedule, I enjoyed it at first because I was being praised on how much I have done and I was truly earning more than the usual and, I was actually having fun. Maybe because I was still starting and I was excited to start earning money but my downside to it was, I grew tired of the busy schedule and I thought hey, I want to have time for myself as well. Then I seek advice from my seniors, and they taught me on how to do your work smart.
From then on, I have been working SMART.
Have a Good day

hi,
I am from the side of people working smart. But sometimes the situations compel you to work hard. It is necessary to settle down in the organization. Once you are familiar then you can choose short cuts for your as well as co benefit. But one should be always loyal, honest to his job.

I'd think people who work smart are happier and perhaps more successful in life. I am a lazy person, I always prefer to think of an effective and better solution, so that I can spend lesser time but also achieve what I want to accomplish. I think people who work smart is happier, as they spend lesser time to achieve what they want to do, so that they can have more time for their personal life.

I think you need to work both, HARD and SMART. Just like mine I really worked hard in the first year of my work. But of course I really need to be smart to execute my work. Now, I was already promoted into something that works as a supervisor in my department.

Definitely I would choose working smart. Making all kinds of money by sacrificing hours to me is not good, as all the money in the world will not buy you one more second when your time is up. You can use time to make money, but you cannot use money to make or buy time, so to me that makes time the more valuable commodity.

I thinks it is more important to work smart that to work hard because you can work really hard but if you don't work smart, you will forever remain where you are. By working smart, you are climbing the shorter way to the top. Like for example an intern. They may just be given the task to photocopy some random papers. Working smart means you don't just photocopy it, smart interns would take a glance at the material and learn things from it. They would also try and socialize with the employees...or more commonly...networking because who knows, maybe these are the people who would help to get you to the top.

Hard work is nothing to be ashamed of but I have always thought that if you work smart you don't have to work harder. The same concept as doing it right the first time around and you will not have to redo it. I think that is working smarter not harder. It does not have to pertain to just financial situations it can pertain to anything in life.

Hi grenzy !
Welcome to mylot !
I believe that both hardwork and smartness are the necessary ingredients of a successful carrier. I agree that there may be examples of people working smart and still managing to earn as much as the others who work hard, but that's what we see on the surface. That experience may only have come from rigorous hard work to understand the business in initial stages and the hectic job to setup a balanced team which is brilliant enough to take its own decisions. However there is no secondary to hardwork. While there may be exceptions and there are many such kinds of jobs out there where you can blow your career if you try to be a smart-a**
. So in order to make a fair comparison we should set the standards straight and weigh them based on the qualifications required for the job, the infrastructure, financial position and the risk involved in the business.

Both of them are important to me in order to be more successful. You will need to work smart to cut down some extra costs or time in some projects. However, in the early state of every career, you will need to work hard. You will need to put in more time and more efforts so that you can get promoted. That is just my personal opinion.
