I moved to a new place 4 months ago. I had to return the stove that goes with my present unit. So, for the past months, I have been eating steamed and boiled food. Steamed hotdog, fish (dory), eggplant... corn... There are times I just microwave ham, sardines and corned beef. Of course, I can't be eating the same things for the next weeks until I finally have a space for a new stove. Can anyone suggest other food that can be steamed or cooked in rice cooker and microwave? Thankies. ^_^

Have you tried steaming food inside aluminium foil? I like this method because we don't lose the taste and the juice of the food due to the steaming and a lot of their natural juice drop down to the water below. You can try steam mussels. Just put it inside aluminium foil together with some ginger, lemongrass and garlic. Add slat and pepper if want. One recipe I like a lot is steam pork inside aluminium foil. I created this recipe myself. Just marinade the pork with your favorite barbecue marinate and lkeave it for few hours. Than put inside aluminum foil and steam it for 1 hour or so. The meat is tender and full of flavor.

This is how I do for my pork last time. Marinade it with oyster sauce and chilli sauce. I also add in shallot, garlic and lemongrass. Once you open the aluminium foil, the aroma just stimulating your taste bud.

Since you do have a microwave, you have a pretty wide range of options available to you. Eggs and pasta can both easily be prepared in the microwave. Potatoes and sweet potatoes or yams can be baked in the microwave. I would suggest preparing pasta using the microwave and then making spectacular pasta salads using an array of veggies. I'm assuming that you have a full-sized refrigerator, so having a good variety of fresh veggies on hand should be viable. You could also expand your options by buying a hotplate--either a single or double burner--toaster oven (far better for preparing meats or baking things such as pizza than a microwave), or crock pot. Honestly, a stove is sort of an optional thing if you have other items such as a crock pot and toaster oven.

Wow, thanks. I'll search the web how to do eggs and pasta. But, I would actually hate you for mentioning EGGs. You know, I love them only I am allergic to them! huhuhu Also, am not into veggies. I eat only very few kinds. I'll purchase a burner-toaster when I start earning big from MyLot. *wink*

Wow... what an adventure! Steaming only..never thought about that! I use my toaster oven most all the time..you might look into that... and even when you get the stove...depending on how many you are feeding... a toaster oven is just a mini oven and bakes enough for at least 4 and costs so much less than heating up a large oven. But I do baked potatoes in there... you can do them in the microwave to, but the microwave just boils them...the toaster oven bakes them and they are so much better! You can bake any kind of meat in the toaster oven that you can in the regular oven...just a smaller size. I buy those boxed potato dishes sometimes and bake them in the TO and they are good. I grill hot dogs in there, bake a pizza and heat "hot pocket" style things. I love my toaster oven! I never have cooked in the microwave as that just boils things from the inside out. Works for veges and things like that but meats...not my taste!

A steamed "ratatouille niçoise" is not bad when done in a microwave : 3 sliced tomatoes with pips removed, 2 sliced courgettes, 1 sliced eggplant, 1 small red pepper and 1 small green pepper in cubes, 1 sliced onion, a bit of garlic. Cook it 5 mn, stir it, cook 5 mn, stir it, cook 5mn. Remove the water, then add salt, pepper and 3 spoons of olive oil. You can also add a red chili to the other veggies if you want it spicy. It is a lot quicker to do than with a stove, and quite as good.

why not try to cook steamed siomai? I love it's taste. Anyway, as far as I know you can cook other dishes aside from steamed something on a rice cooker. I personally cook dishes in the rice cooker such as pancit, adobo, caldereta, menudo, you can even cook spaghetti using it. If you are not familiar with the dishes I cited, you can search in the internet what those are. Theses dishes are very tasty and delicious.

I wonder how you can cook the dishes you mentioned using only a rice cooker, though. Like, I believe, everything you mentioned needed to be sauteed. I don't think I like to use the rice cooker to saute anything. Won't saute-ing damage the thing? Thanks for the suggestions!
