As the title indicated, it sounds like one of Tom Cruise's movie, in the future we were be able to predict the crimes, and deter it before it actually happen. In reality, we do have such system, but it is run by the computer and sophisticated data center to predict the repetitive crimes in certain areas. For instance, in some area within LA, the robbery can be happen over and over again, with the help of this computer system, the central department can dispatch patrol cars around the area to look around. According to the system, most of the time, the repetitive crime might happen again, such as burglary. But there is one catch, such predictive policing system might violate the Fourth Amendment of our constitution rights. For example, if the police see someone suspicious because he was carrying a duffel bag around the crime areas, the police might ordered to stop that particular person for investigation. In court, you can't tell the judge this policeman have to stop a suspect simply the computer told him to do so. So, there is still need on improvement on it. I assume with this predictive policing system, it can really helps to deter some crimes to happen over and over again.

In my opinion if it is a high crime area the police do not need a computer data center to tell them that they need to patrol the area.... I mean anyone with common sense should know that. Why go and make things so complicated? The easy solution is to police the areas that are considered high crime with more patrols and spend the budget on the police/sheriff's department instead of on high tech futuristic computers...

You are talking about the movie Minority Report? I think it's Keanu Reeves not Tom Cruise. Well though we have different political status and law if you would think of it logically I agreed that you are certainly right.

Although we have different form of looking into a crime issue, I could say that this system can be of help as a guide of tracing and solving a crime. The computer can only detect on the physical movement of a human but not the mind. Personally, I would say that a crime can not be called a crime unless it was already done. The system can be used as a form of precautionary measure.
