Ok so I didn't catch the exact name of it but I think I've heard the commercial on the radio twice now about some sort of med to help people who's job causes them trouble sleeping ect. So if you work night shift the pill will help you function on your days off like a normal daytime person is what I presume this new med is about. If you heard this pill there is a laundry list of side effect from mental problems, sleeping issues, to yellowing of eyes and skin.... it was a very sizeable list. IDK but this new med seems like a waste. My hubby switches between night and day shift several times a year. Now why would anyone want to take a pill for something a company is labeling as a "disorder" when it's just part of life?!?! If you work 3rd shift you are going to be pooped on your days off or sleep them away... isn't that natural? And if you need some pep you can drink some coffee?
Has anyone else heard this commercial? What do you think of this being called a "disorder"?

I haven't seen the commercial, but I know that everything's a "disorder" now. It helps to keep the CEO's of the pharmaceutical companies in champagne and BMWs.
If they really cared, they'd be more interested in stopping the cause of any problems rather than treating (expensively and the rest of your life) the symptoms.

A lot of times when someone has trouble sleeping or going to sleep, it's because of things that can be fixed. A room that's too cold or too hot, or a muscle ache or too much to eat just before bedtime... you don't need a pill for that! But "they" give you one anyway, rather than spending five minutes asking questions and listening to you.
So many things they call disorders are just human nature. They even treat aging like it was a disease.

It is just another way to separate vulnerable and suggestible people and their insurance companies from their money. The more ailments we have the more pills we take and the more pills we have to take to counter act those pills. There may be a very few people who legitimately have a sleep disorder related to shift work, but it is just like all these television commercials telling us to sue someone for something, especially for a med we took.

Very true!
I know with my girls being presumed ADD all they want is to medicate the kids. But they won't presume age is a factor, learning style is a factore, dyslexia is a factor, or speech impairment. Here take a pill and all that stuff will go away while you are taking a dozen pills overtime as you mentioned to counter acct a sife affect of another. I've got a friend who's finally taking her kid off the meds as he's having other medical issues that stemmed from those pills.
Yes in this world we are sue happy. I think we should sue them for their marketing practices of selling false hope and not a cute but something to settle down ailments and or cause more or for them to get worse.

Hi, 3SnuggleBunnies, I wouldn't call this disorder. If you work at night or too early in the morning (the second is especially hard for me)it's normal to have sleeping problems. If something is normal, you couldn't call it a disorder. Anyway I hate pills, I'm afraid of them and always try to avoid them. I don't work at regular hours - sometimes I have to get up very early and other times I finish work at midnight. When I have problems to sleep or I'm tired, I don't take pills, I just try to relax. Have a nice day!

You are doing what you are supposed to do which is deal with it the best you can and sleep when you can ect. Not pop a pill. I too get some odd shifts usually a mid day but sometimes I get closing and like you it can get very late and then one stays up later to relax but that doesn't mean you get to sleep in. I know I don't if I stay up til 1am or later I still have to get up before 7 to get the kids going and from that point on I don't have time for napping.
