"Frankenstein" mummies found in Scotland

Researchers in Scotland have found two 3,000 year old mummies in Scotland that have mismatching body parts. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/3-000-old-frankenstein-mummies-discovered-scotland-182603496.html
One theory is that that the pieces were put together for a complete body for burial (after death).
A second theory is that peoples flesh was sort of like a legal document, so burying them pieces together would seal a deal for land, for example.

That's pretty cool in creepy, scientific way :-)
I've got no idea what it means and I doubt anyone will ever figure it out, but it is interesting to speculate. Maybe they were so fascinated when they dug up the old bones that they made it out of reverence for the bones? Or whoever ancestor they thought they belonged too?

I assume that the bodies were found on a battlefield after being hacked and mixed up with all the other bodies. The custom at that tile was the bodies would have to be put together or they would not go to the afterlife. So the grave keepers did as best as they could, considering the technology of the times.

Judging from the picture presented by the link. I think it's only art. Ha ha ha. Although i am quite curious what it actually means. How about you, what do you think about that article?
