With tomorrow being Friday the thirteenth there are many that fear this day in the belief that bad will befall them. Most people in our civilization have a fear of the number thirteen, or triskaidekaphobia, and have tried for years to avoid this number. Most building have even gone as far as to omit the number thirteen from the elevator buttons, even though in fact there is a 13th floor. There are many beliefs amongst different cultures as to the beginning of this fear or the meaning behind the belief. For the most part this fear has been ingrained into our lives without a thought as to why but most people have their own fear of Friday the 13th. Do you have you have a fear of this day and if so is it a real fear or is it just a superstition? Some believe that bad will happen on this day but for the most part nothing really happens just a plain fear something bad will happen.

here where i live, Friday the 13th is a huge deal. thousands of bikers (that ride motorcycles) all head down to this lakeside village and spend the day there. this town makes a lot of money because of all the people that come. this year, with it being in the summer, they will be expecting something like 30,000 people coming to the area.

Wow! Wouldn't you want to open up a stall there and maybe sell souvenirs or stuff to earn a little extra. In our place, most people would definitely do that on such occasions.

Mylot doesn't need such superstitions to malfunction. It will go wrong as normal, and probably shut down for a few hours as it usually does at or near the weekend. So yes, something bad will happen to us, but Friday the thirteenth has nothing to do with it.

Now, now, petersum. Let's not be too negative about this. Instead of looking forward to mylot going haywire again, I'd rather look forward to another quadruple earning days.

A few days ago, one of my friend was talking about people fearing number thirteen and they avoid using the number in elevator and hotel room number. Now I am looking at the same thing as you have posted this discussion. I don't know why people are afraid of number thirteen, perhaps you can explain the story behind such fear to us. I myself have no fear or negative feelings associated with that number.

We just express a hatred for this number 13 as because this evil number betrayed us once. We dont want to remember or rear this number. Its also my worship, be it a superstition or science.

I believe in the power of the mind more than the superstition that bad things befall on Friday the 13th. When I was a kid, I used to fear this day somehow. Not really intentional but this phenomenon is somehow contagious and I sort of caught it before, so when it's Friday the 13th, I always expected something bad to happen. As I grew older, and hopefully wiser, I believe that all this is pure superstition and could possibly be just the effect of negative thinking, hence I believe more in the power of the mind. If we think of negative things, greater chance of negative things will happen.
