I'm watching the ABC evening news and I'm upset but yet not surprised that the USA's olympic team is wearing Ralph Lauren MADE IN CHINA! I love all the businesses in the USA who've said they could make them replacement uniforms in time for the start of the games. IDK but you know almost everything is made overseas in Asia which is nothing new. I love though how people were upset about it! Honestly it would be nice to see if the uniforms as well as most goods sold here be listed as “sewn or assembled in the United States.”
Do you think they should get new uniforms? Or would you rather see that they start promoting American Made goods or even giving companies corporate tax credits to have items made here?

By all means have them made here! How dare the olympic team even think of doing such a thing! Whoever has them made...knew they were being made in China and that person/company whoever...should be fired from the Olympic team protocal. There are probably dozens of places that'd make the teams uniforms FOR FREE...just for saying where they were made or being able to say "we made the teams uniforms"...but..just another way that the "upper management" of this country doesn't care about this country and more evidence that the "upper management" is spending our money beyond follishly into disgustment. Those uniforms are quite a deal...ton of money spent there..and you know that in China they ones that actually did the sewing were only paid pennies on the dollar to it is just more to profit China instead of USA. Shame shame, shame on this company and the olympic protocal that allowed it.

Let's just hope other designers and manufactures and CONGRESS get the hint..we want our jobs and manufacturing back!

I like your title "burn olympic uniforms" and I agree with it. They should build a big bonfire and burn all of those Chinese made uniforms, then look to American companies to produce uniforms for them. One post said maybe they would give the uniforms free, but I don't think that would be right. They paid China, let them pay US!
I know the effect is small, but if we talk to others about it, it may grow: We need to "Buy American." Even if "they" say it's a terrorist activity.

We should buy American cause we are Americans! That simple! If we want to work, buy american, If we want the country to grow, buy American.
Let's just hope that other manufactures and CONGRESS get this hint...we want our jobs and manufacturing back!

Okay, this story got me laughing. Not because they were made in China, although that is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a while. I mean, seriously? But what got me laughing was the absolute rage expressed on Capitol Hill because of this issue. Democrats and Republicans were both irate. And I'm thinking, holy cow. Abortion hardly raises a stir, religious persecution in foreign countries gets barely a nod, but you flip out over American uniforms being made in China?! I think it's an issue, but these guys were fuming. Shouldn't they be fuming about the real issues of the day? Because if they were this mad about "real life" things maybe they'd get a lot more done. But Ralph Lauren, you have got to be kidding me. Did he seriously think this would not get attention?

I thought the same thing...I was thinking...see... Congress can act FAST...when they want to! But things like this...the people will see it as a victory and calm down for a little while over their dislike of Congress and politics. That's all Congress was looking for.
Let's just see how much effect it has on bringing our jobs and manufacturing home. Or on other designers bringing their work home instead of "outsourcing" it. Besides, Lauren has 2 years to figure out how to get around it for the 2014 Olympics. Plus..by that time.. people will have probably forgotten or he'll just raise the price on the uniforms saying it cost more to make here than there...so someone has to pay the increase!

i am not surprised that some designers still use sweat shops in China. That the US uniforms are made by a famous US designer doesn't surprise me either. The US is always about buying US made. Wonder where they went wrong here.
Canada's Olympic uniforms are made here in Canada. GO CANADA!

Sweat shops? Did I miss something? All I read about was that they were made in China. They didn't say anything about sweat shops. Maybe I need to see her discussion again.
By the way, in Canada, do they generally make everything in Canada? Or when you pick up an item does it usually say made in China? Because it's cheaper to have it done in China I was wondering if more countries besides ours was doing that. I did pick something up the other day that I had purchased and it had been made in Canada. And weirdly, I felt glad that at least my money went to a country CLOSE to us.

It is made in China, it pretty much explain why those American athletes look so terrible and kind of odd looking with those dresses, pants and blazers in picture. They need a better looking and well design uniform that fix well with their shape and body assembled by adults, not some child labors somewhere hidden inside China factory. Sigh!!

I think it is sad that nothing was made here and it would be nice if they did wear clothing American made but lets face it, everything is foreign made becasue Americans do not want to pay for the work based off our pay scales yet they want the pay scales to be higher. Double sided swords my friend.

Yes but what American company would do that? I mean look at the companies making clothes right now... they all publicize themselves on every article of clothing. Think of all the Old Navy clothes that sport the name, same with PUMA.

It is very interesting that people are very concerned about the uniforms that were made in China. Many community organizations including schools do the same thing. Many communities have several small business that could provide sports apparel to fans but the people go to other communities or other states. The American people need to more concerned buying locally and support local business just as the the government and larger organization should be considering buying American.

Ralphie baby finally listened...albeit to late! I mean come on...what was he thinking in the first place? But the article makes it sound like a mockery saying
"Hopefully, it will also knock Congress and everyone else complaining about the issue off their high horses. Anyone spending time and anger on this subject should take a minute to think about when they last purchased something based on where the item was made. Instead, they should be angry over the fact American Olympians are once again forced to wear funny hats."
If more companies would manufacture in the USA we wouldn't be reading this article. And many look at where it was made, that's how we know it wasn't made here! And if all we should be concerned about is the funny hats...why bother with the Olympics at all? And it tends to by=pass the "you can't fight city hall" thing and show that yes, you can fight city hall and sometimes you can win! And hopefully it will show congress that the people of this country want their jobs back and the countrys status back and bring manufacturing home!
