So we found a new berry patch this last weekend. I was up at a local hotel having breakfast with some folks who came up for the weekend. When I parked I noticed along the tree line some blackberry bushes. On further inspection there was a whole patch down at the end where there is a little trail. Now we only picked enough to make a small batch of jelly and this was becasue they are just now starting to ripen but in a week or so we'll have buckets
. Now Understand that wild blackberry jelly is an all time favorite of mine. Blackberry anything! My own bushes where badly damaged last September in flooding and though they grew back no fruit at all this year
. These wild ones though taste better then any berry I picked off that expensive bush I bought. I am thinking of taking a few branches and seeing if I can get them to take root for next year!

That so nice and a very nice turn of events for you after that flooding of your bushes. I think taking some branches back for your garden is an excellent idea. I wish I could do that too, I would love to have blackberries in my garden. I love adding them to deserts and making jams. I'm actually kind of jealous right now lol

Blackberries are so good. When I was a youngster I used to spend the Summer at my grandmother's. She had three quarters of an acre. A quarter of it was garden. And all around the garden were bushes of blackberries, currants, raspberries and black caps. Trees of prunes, pie cherries and apricots. And rhubard and concord grapes. All of it is gone now but I remember getting so sick from eating it all. Yum!

This post seems to have brought the grandmothers to everyone's thoughts! I was slowly build up to that type of garden. My blueberry, honey berry, blackberry and raspberry bushes survived the flood and are fighingt back. My apple tree actually did better this year but my pears didn't even get flowers this spring..

I LOVE WILD BLACKBERRIES. i'D GIVE MY FRONT Seat for one of my grandmother's cobblers. Gosh, she made good ones. I make them but they don't taste like my Bigmama's. I hope u can get a start of them. U can't beat the jam either.
