It seems that all tv networks are launching their star search or contests at the same time of the year. GMA has the Protege, ABSCBN has the X-Factor, and ABC5 has their Artista Academy. And, it looks like all 3 have about the same number of auditionees. I bet a lot of those went to all 3 auditions just to try their luck.
If I were still on my teens or early 20's, I still would not want to do any audition for this matter. I'm just not the type, although, to be a celebrity seems fun and comes with a good price.
How about you? Have you tried going for any of these auditions, and how was your journey? Share your experiences.
If you are like me who'd rather be an audience or a fan, what do you think of these contests?

Not my forte as well trying my luck with showbiz. I think I am just contented watching them on TV rather than me putting myself there in front of the TV to show my talent to the nation. Not my type of work I would like to join in.
But for those that really are that eager, sometimes I commend their courage to do so. Showbiz can be a good start for you to change your life. That is why many are really trying their best to show themselves in the hopes that fame could catapult them from where they are right now.
I guess this star searches helps the masses who are dreaming but could not find a venue to showcase themselves. And I think the TV networks can somehow earn money from all of this since if they can get a fresh and raw talent from this auditionee they can ask for a smaller talent fees and developed it to something big later. I think there are many like this that are benefiting from it.

This also levels down the playing field for the old time talents that charges higher fees, because once this new talents are on the rise the old ones would also be forced to adjust their fees to be competitive with the new found talents that is rising as well. I think with this the networks can fairly have a say with them. When there was ABS and GMA was doing this we saw lots of talents were either pirated by both networks but now that TV5 has entered in it we will see how the turn of events would come by. TV5 is currently very good in getting old and new talents from these two big networks.

You have a point there. Lesser talent fee means more profit for the producers. Also, within these reality search shows, they also gain profit from text votes.

TV5 is indeed being aggressive with their strategies. They are able to get celebrities from the other networks, which I wonder how it happened. Isn't there some exclusivity clause to their contracts with their networks?
Some big stars, however, like Sharon Cuneta, Kris Aquino, etc., who have proven their worth in the industry still goes with a high talent fee.

like you, I am not the kid who aspired to be an artista. It’s not just me. I have many friends who still wish they would become rich, famous and photoshopped. Anyway, I would really don’t like those kind of contests since tehre are always a lot of contestants and there will be one lucky winner. I meant the luck part since the competiton does impose an acting or scripted part on the contestant. It’s like any other reality show.
I don’t blame anyone who wants to join if it is really their thing. but the chances of really being a star these days is almost minimal. There is a lot of people coming in showbiz and a lot of people coming out after relentless trying to score projects from networks. If you win, lucky you. But if you aren’t memorable enough then perhaps, showbiz is really not for you. If you do penetrate the entertainment business, your private life is almost over.
In addition, I don’t wat to be a fan either. Like being an artista, it’s not just me.

I also think there's a lot of politics in show business. I mean, there are a lot of those who don't really have much talents but because they are sons and daughter of who knows who, then they got a contract.
I even think these star searches are good avenue for finding real talents. We can really see ahead what these young ones can do before they even hit the industry.

Young actors from influential showbiz families have certainly a charm to them. It somewhat akin to political dynasty which often suicintly described as new face/blood, old name. I have nothing against these people if they really have the talent. If they do, then lucky them because they get special attention and mention even at an early age (with or without the consent fo their parents).
I also agree that showbiz is akin to politics. The entertainment industry is in big on-going drama. There are the primadonnas, the fire-breathing directors and producers and the gossipmongers who always have their daily fill of celebrity news.
I will not deny that there is talent in these shows. But in today’s industry, talent is sometimes not enough. You have to be everything and anything they wanted to be or they will steal the spotlight and easily give it to another who wants to kill for the position.

Actually, even those with no talent in singing become recording stars, and those who can't act are placed on limelight. In the US, its all about talent. I don't know of anyone who is given a contract for singing or acting if they don't have any talent to showcase.

its good for the networks because its a venue to find new breeds of stars but on the other hand, the existing actors in the networks would jeopardize their careers because the networks would rather focus and invest on the new breed of actors. I just hope before these networks would search for new actors, the existing actors in their network would give them assurance that their careers would still be there. This is what happens to older actors, they would be replace from the products of reality programs and they are left jobless.

Competition is really getting tough in the showbiz industry. Only a few long time celebrities remain to be. Lucky new stars get the spotlight, so they have to prove their worth to keep their luck!
