Along with the people that did not support her provocation that my country's swimmer Ye ShiWen is doping, I just felt that she did not do her job as a newscaster and showed the ugly side of the cultured west - a sore loser! IMO, I do not think it is her job to instigate and provoke when a competitor excels in their event because a reputable event like the Olympics would have the necessary and not forgetting adequate measures against substance abuse by its competitors. What she had done is really unthinkable and most of all, unnecessary when she should be factual with her reporting and look into the athlete's background leading to the victory. It is not her job to point the finger otherwise excellent performance will be hindered. How would athletes like Michael Phelps (US) or Yannick Agnel (France) feel if the media start instigating that their feats are being assisted by drugs? Not offending but be factual and gracious in defeat. Otherwise, you will be like a blabbering sore loser to the world.

I think this is uncalled for and is just a sore loser mentality from Balding. I think the fact that a Chinese girl could swim faster than the fastest American male swimmer really seems to have upset him. But that is no reason to throw allegations at a young swimmer especially when the tests proved nothing. Cheers! Ram

I have to say that Clare Balding is out of line and reflect badly what true journalism is about. She was not only brash but totally irresponsible for her remarks. I can understand some doubts to the incredulous performance but I don't think it is her job to voice out when she knows very well that all medal winners will have to undergo the mandatory urine and blood tests after their victories. With the advancement in these stringent tests, no abuser had ever escaped without a heavy punishment, Clare Balding and party really does not have the right to question the swimmer's credibility and much more the Olympics testing board. Shame on her!

I can't agree more with you. Olympics testing board has a good infrastructure in place for testing during the events and otherwise. So it is not Clare's place to cast such allegations without any proofs. Cheers! Ram
