So, I get home from doing what I had to do today and the roomie has decreed that we were going to organize the pantry today.
I knew the pantry was a disaster area, so I figured that I'd get started before she got off.
I started pulling stuff out of the pantry about 4:15 and kept at it until the roomie got off at 5.
In that time I had loaded 2 bins, a small box of canned goods and a larger box with more of the lighter stuff and the "miscellaneous" things I had found that matched the things in the bins I had already finished.
When the roomie got off, she took over emptying the pantry and recruited the totally blind roommate to walk things from the pantry to the boxes on the table.
I was reading expiration dates (and there were a lot of expired things) and then dumping, trashing or separating the recycling from the food if they were in cardboard boxes.
We found some stuff to give to the roommate's nephew and family, and they can use it.
It was EIGHT before we were done. But, I had swept and mopped the floor (still pretty bad, but its at least a clean bad) and the roomie had put things into the pantry in some kind of order.
We discovered nine (count it - NINE!) bags of sweetener (Splenda type) threw away ANTIQUE puddings and jellos ('05! in some cases!) and discovered the the former roommate had helped herself to a box of cereal that wasn't hers, and left it, well, not open, but it wasn't hers to open in the first place!)
By the time we were done, we were so tired we couldn't even decide what to eat!
Its been a LONG day since that 6 a.m. wake up cat fight - and it may only be 10, but I think we are all going to bed soon!
This has been a long organization process - since LAST August, but we are starting to get things kind of together.
When's the last time you organized something?

Hi Elic,
Isn't it amazing how easily we forget things and the next thing you know, we have a pile of stuff and it takes us longer to organize it.
I just reorganized my closet, AGAIN. It drives me crazy. This is the one that's in my L.R. and its sort of like a storage area, but a small storage area. I had to get rid of tons of craft stuff and just items I've had from over the years. Plus, I cleaned out my clothes again too, in the bedroom. It all drives me crazy because I just don't have enough room here and hate when I can't put some stuff out of sight..ugh.

One of the things we are going to do is use the closet in there for winter coats and stuff so that the blind roommate has a place to hang her dresses and stuff for church (she's more "girly" than either of us are) The closets in the house are a JOKE!

You really had a busy day. I hope you can be free sooner. Sometime I am busy just like you, I really don't like that. I like life with no pressure.

You were busy ladies. I sorted out our ironing room which had become dangerously over run with piles of clothes in need of sourcing into those that we keep and those that we dispose off. We keep our heating furnace in that room and the man was coming to give it is annual service. So clearing the room was a necessity if the poor guy was to make it across the room without breaking a leg or arm or worse. Our furnace, or boiler as we call it, is 20 years old but he said that it is in good order and it would be silly to change it. I have heard so many reports of people buying new ones only for them to break down after three or four years but I can't help but think that I'll stick with the slightly older antique model.

I'm rubbish at organising things. Hauling it all out is no problem, but then I get bored or distracted and everything stays out until it starts to gather dust. Probably best not to let things get into a state in the first place, but I know that's easier said than done!
Sounds like your early night is well deserved.

I do agree, but if we don't get things right back in, then the bad cats have their way with them... I have to say, without the "J" roommate "helping" (called slinging some stuff in there without trying to sort) maybe we can keep it organized.

When I cleaned off the counters. I still have a lot of organizing to do. We had to throw away some food that had gone bad, and some was just awful looking. We don't have a pantry but we have cabinets. It looks nice in the kitchen - not completely great but nice atleast. I need to work on tackling the table, preferably before the kids get here and mess it up again...

We sort our canned goods by expiration, as the front of the shelf are the ones expiring the soonest. This has helped us throw away less food now. It use to be really bad. Yikes about the 05 and I'll admit last year we did have some on the shelf that were old.

Well, good for you! I have piles of stuff I should sort through, but I'd rather play outside in the summer...
Then when winter comes around, I'm too much of a slug to do anything.
I hope to get the backyard in some sort of decent order before the summer's over, after the reconstruction is done. It's going slowly, as my friend who's helping me works the afternoon shift, so only has 2-3 hours to spare each day during the week. Add a couple torrential downpours to the mix, and his own family obligations...

The roomie said: " I could put my hat on and we can go out and sort through those boxes."
I said: "Hell no! Its tooo hot!"
I did add that we could talk about doing it in the morning...
Outside is too bleeding HOT - close to (if not over) 100ยบ!
