I'm not a professional photographer but I want to have my own camera so that I could take pictures of event or even when just travelling that I want. I'm thinking of brands like Canon, NIkon or Pentax. I'm just a beginner with a little experience in using an DSLR the most basic that I can think of. My budget would be like P 25,000.00 to P 27,000.00 from the Philippines.

I agree. Though I am also by no means a professional photographer. When I started getting "interested" into digital cameras and taking pictures, I initially bought a point and shoot Olympus, one of their older models. As I began to travel, it seems my Olympus cannot do justice to the places I am visiting anymore so I upgraded to a Nikon d5100. Despite my experience with a point and shoot digicam, I have to admit I was "culture shocked" with the d5100. But the price difference is pretty close so I just opted to a much "higher" model. But Nikon DSLRs are easy to use and I was able to maximize my dslr in no time. The d5100 was about 30-40 thousand when converted to pesos when I bought it last year. So the d3100 might be within your budget range.

ah, I also asked some people that I know, they said that nikon is great for beginners but I dont know the model and price. I had used an slr before, but I only borrowed from my superior before, I think it was a canon 500d or higher. Does canon eos1000d a good camera as well and a pentax k-r still available in the market

Hello arvintot, I am also not a professional photographer. I really love to take photos and to save it in my computer. Currently I have Sony camera of 12.1 mega pixel and I am really comfortable with it. So I recommend sony digital cameras. A huge variety of them are available now .

With your budget you can go for Canon 550d or 600d. It is a beginner camera with lots of features that would help you learn photography. I would suggest if you were to buy a camera to try other cameras that would make you comfortable taking shots. Also look up for some reviews in the internet. But with your budget 550d or 600d is the best pick for an entry level DSLR. Then from that, try saving for professional lenses and external flash. And in choosing a brand, choose a brand that you will be having until the end. So that for example you chose canon, and bought some lenses, you just need to upgrade your body in the future and not anymore the lenses. Switching brands is not a good idea since it will cost you a lot.
