Sleeping Patterns

My two family members can be sleeping with the TV on whereas it would keep me awake at any time it's on. Sometimes if they sleep with it on and you shut it off they will be awake again. It is like it's their "lullaby" to hear those noises of the TV on in the background to fall asleep. Can you explain why it is easier/easy for some people to sleep with the TV on and others can't when it's on? I wish I knew.

I'm in the same ship as your folks. I would set the timer on for an hour, which is enough time for me to doze off. The TV will just turn off on its own and Im already asleep by then. I can't really explain the magic it does for me. At first, my reason for doing such routine is only to make sure the TV gets turned off in case I fall asleep. However, it has become a habit, and it seems I can't sleep without the tv on. Sometimes, I have to turn it on, and put it on timer mode, just for me to fall asleep.

How cool you have the timer to shut it off with, I have no such thing for it here. Wish i did though, it would help alot. I think it is a habit after all, it would just bug me to fall asleep with it on all night though too and that probably keeps me awake in itself.

I just have to make sure I won't lose the remote control, otherwise, I won't be able to use the timer feature anymore. It would be annoying to have to wake up and turn off the television. I hate it when my husband leaves the tv and player on when he's already fallen asleep. I get to be the one to turn it all off. He hasn't gotten the habit of using the timer as much as I do.

Me neither, I guess we're more alike. I have to know it is off before I can sleep. The noise keeps me awake, but I'm usually a light sleeper anyways.

I used to have problems sleeping. No matter what I couldn't fall asleep. My sister suggested I leave my television on for background noise. So I did. And it worked! I now sleep with the television on because it helps me go to sleep. However, I cannot fall asleep to any kind of drama. That just get my attention and keeps me up.

You remind me of my grandpa. He loves to sleep with the radio tuned in to his favorite station. And when someone turned it off- he surely wake up. Aside from my grandpa, I haven't seen any among family members who have same habit as he has.

Hello NT I can sleep at the drop of a hat. Which can be embarrassing if you happen to be shopping at a milliners at the time. I easily fall asleep in front of the tv, especially if I hear the monotone voice of Adrian Chiles about to introduce the footy. I do wish I could fall asleep when Eastenders is on, as I can't stands it! But the shouting is too much even for my ears. Rickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

If you are having trouble sleeping, why not lie on a cliff top? Whenever I do that, I soon drop off........

I wish I could do that Orson, most here could do that too. I'm always up when everyone is asleep. It is aggravating. I worry about everything, therefore can't sleep.

When I am scared and alone here at home I used to open the TV until I fall asleep. For me, when I hear the television it help me gain some strength to lessen my fears and refocus my mind. Also television help me to sleep when I am having troubles in sleeping.

That helps when you're along and scared sometimes, sure. The TV can be used too much though for some, just as a computer can I suppose but at least on here I try to do some useful things and interact.

hi nailtouch I am guilty of tha t ss the chair is comfy and I can breathe freer-er in a chair so I do drop off to sleep really easily but jf I am woke up and startled then I will not be able to go back to sleep in a flat bed. I have allergy to dust and dust mites and usually I have trouble sleeping unless I take several Benadryl tablets first then prop my shoulders up some. in a chair you do breathe easier as an older person and get comfy and fall asleep. The tv does not bother as I am usually starved for sleep,.

I use the television to lull me off to sleep too. I turn it on the History channel or some other one that has a documentary on. The talking lulls me off to sleep. And then i sleep right through most anything that is on although sometimes I remember to set the timer for 30-60 minutes. As you get older I think less seems to bother you.

Yeah, i wish i knew too. for me it's music. Don't think bad of me, but i slept better if i have a headphone over my head playing loud and hard song like Linkin Park or Gackt. If someone turn it off, i will wake up.

Hi friend, some persons are very much interested and addicted with TV and always wish to hear the TV noise, even in their sleeping time, but i don't have the ability to sleep with the TV noise, this kind of persons have the ability to get up if the noise is stopped, so they can easily wake up if you stopped the TV

HAha that is funny, the sleeping pattern in you house is contradicting.. haha I think one person has to compromise on this. You can put cotton in your ears. but I don't know how you can manage this situation. I have never been in this type of situation. I can sleep with Tv on or off. It is okay with me. thanks for sharing and have wonderful day.
