Need to decide.

Hi there myLot members. I've seen a great deal for an Android 4 touch-screen tablet but I don't know a lot about them. I have a few questions: What can I do with one of these? How do they differ from a laptop? Any info or suggestions you can provide me would be a big help, thanks.

Hi MsTickle! My "Good" friend x I have a recently acquired iPad and it's great for connecting to the internet and using apps etc. I assume the Android 4 tablet will do pretty much the same. They don't have much in the way of hard disk space but are lighter and obviously 'touch-screen' so more useful when you are on the go. I do use it more than my laptop now but until it has a greater storage capacity, it will not completely replace it. If I were you I would dive in and buy one. You have to keep up or be left behind, and that's the worst behind to have!

Hi there Orson, (Me "good"? Oh come now!) I've actually decided to give it a miss. I found another similar discussion: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2683956.aspx and it seems to be for playing games or for people on the go. That makes my decision quite easy as I am always right here, on my beautiful behind, playing with my laptop.

Damn! I meant to say "True" friend. Trust me to cock it up. They are now introducing tablets into the workplace, so not just for playing games as you can do presentations on them, for example. I hope you are goodish tho, and a little bit baddish at the same time?

My daughter has an Android...I don't know if it is a 4 or not though...She looked up a ton of reviews on it before picking it though. I know hers is just like a little laptop. It has a slide out keyboard and you can download apps on it. The battery life was the biggest thing she ran into with the reviews but the one she choose had the best one out of her research. You can do pictures, videos, search the web, talk, text, and it has a GPS app too. Gosh..I guess they can do just about anything.

Hi Jen, long time no see. I thank you for that info. I figured out that a tablet is more for people who want something to take whenever they are on the go...I don't need that and I'm happy to take a book with me or my e-reader. It can be good sometimes to have a reason to be without my laptop.

Oh...I just seen tablet on there. Well...it does the same stuff I mentioned but all the same stuff as a laptop. I think the biggest thing is the ease of taking it places. It is like a book.

My dear friend...I can answer "nada" about an Android 4, and my son is not home, so I can't even pick his brain..LOL! But I am going to follow your discussion to see what I can learn! I am overdue for an up-date and to expand my knowledge of electronics, but that will be a challenge for me, as I am JUST NOT a "techno-rat!" Still having trouble with my cell-phone. I also, just wanted to chime in..and say, so glad to hear from you..and send SOME LOVE from the West Coast of Canada! I know you will pooh, pooh me but we are experiencing 35-38C...which is highly unusual for this area, and we just can't seem to get acclimitized! Thank goodness, I still have about an acre and a half heavily treed, and that is where I am spending the hottest part of the day! BIG, BIG HUGZ

Before the blackberry that I have right now, I used to have a Samsung android. (I dropped it, and broke which forced me to get another smartphone). I remember loving that android as it made me do anything and everything. I can get to the internet anytime. My kids love it for all the games they were able to download.

I just realized that it's actually a tablet that you're referring to. And not the phone. We'll my nephew has one, and it's the same. He's using it as a game console.

Ok bounce, nice to see you. If it's mainly for games or connecting to the net then my laptop will suffice as that is what I use for those activities. I stay home most of the time and so I'm guessing I should just stick to my laptop.
