Even Older People Get Ripped Off

Take my Dad for example.
He can laugh at this now but he wasn't at the time.
Because his beloved Layton Institute (yes, that's its name but it only sells beer lol) has shut down..more of that in a minute..he decided to search out a pint of draught lager during the daytime.
Now, the only place he could think of - in Layton at least - was the local Greek Restaurant. It has tables and chairs outside and the owner thinks it's something special..but anyway.
Dad asked the owner if he could have a beer. The owner told him that it's not "normal policy to serve beer unless food is served but today I shall make an exception. Are you drinking outdoors?" she asked my Dad.
"Yes, please."
So, my Dad sat down and thought he was going to be brought a pint glass of beer but no, it was a glass bottle of lager instead, which equates to half a pint if you're lucky. He didn't tell me on the phone if there was a glass with it but somehow I doubt it.
He didn't complain and proceeded to drink his beer "to break the day up" as he told me.
Upon receiving his bill receipt, he told me he "nearly fell off me chair" because the price of this ill-fated visit was..brace yourselves..
"£3.20!!"
Bearing in mind that Layton isn't exactly the centre of London. Dad also told me that in the Layton Institute he could buy 2 pints of lager for that!
Rip-off Britain at its finest, ripping off Pensioners.
As for the Club, they've suddenly decided to hold another meeting on Sunday to let Members know of the latest developments. All it is is a ploy to get everyone in there buying cheap booze (like they did last week, suspiciously), which is what they should have done before the place shut.
Oh, by the way, a Committee Member won £800 on Open The Box last week, which is a form of raffle. Dad told me they all went on the Bingo on a regular basis "and won loads."
No wonder the place is shutting down..or is it? Stay tuned for the latest installment!

The merchant is intent on nothing but profit,no matter who you are.Your Dad should have asked the owner what its price is before drinking it.maybe he thought the restaurant as good as Layton Institute. What annoys everyone is that they called it by the fine-sounding name of "making an exception" when they got your Dad ripped off.

Once bitten twice shy.I guess this kind of restaurant is unlikely to have frequent customers.

I can understand his surprise but restaurants are always more expensive than pubs which in turn usually charge more than clubs. I don't think that it is a rip off, simply a convention. Did she not give him a menu so that he could see the prices? I do hope that they re-open the club as clearly there is a requirement from the drinking men (and women) of Layton. Down here £3.20 strikes me as an average price for a pint of anything and we are nowhere near London!

In actual fact Blackpool is one of the dearest places in the UK to drink, always has been. My Dad likes to compare prices with the Club you see, he can't help it..plus the fact people would make the excuse it was dear in there so wouldn't go in..and then the place shuts and it wasn't dear at all. People just couldn't be bothered and that was that.
