Apartment or house?

I live in an apartment, commonly known as "flat".I have two rooms and I think it's okay.Sometimes I find it hard to have a party, because the space tends to get a little bit crowded, but I didn't complain about it. I always wanted to live in a house.Although the space problem is not so pressing,I would loved if I had some more space,an adequate place to keep an animal,a yard, possibly a back yard.No more knocking from the neighbors saying they can't sleep with my music. No more waking up from people running/talking in the apartment complex. When I will have the funds,I will do the necessary things to move to a house. What about you,MyLotters?Do you live in an apartment or house?Where would you like to live in?

Right now I live in an apartment with my husband, my daughter and soon we will have another little baby. We would rather have a house but right now we just don't have the credit to be able to get a bank loan to afford a house. We don't have enough money out of pocked to pay just flat out for a house which is very rare for people to do period. We don't call apartments here in the US flats they are just apartments. We right now a 3 bedroom apartment but we can't afford to live in it for another year because my husband doesn't make enough and our room mate had to move out because she wasn't getting alone with us. So really we don't need a 3 bedroom even with two small kids. So in October we are going to be moving to another apartment not sure which one yet because we haven't really picked which one yet depending one the price, size and location.

I don't feel like the walls are closing in. It's very normal to want more space. I really don't want my daughter and son sharing the same room. My daughter is a toddler and her brother is a newborn. Children tend to want there own room. Before we know it we will be ready for a third child and there is a rule when it comes to renting apartments that only 2 people per room so a house would just naturally be the next step. Bank loans are built to help you buy a house other wise you will be stuck saving for years and years and by that time I would have lost more money renting a place then owning a place. A bank loan is like any other loan. If you go to college or a university you have a school loans then, when you get a car most always you need a loan to finance your car, buying a house only the rich can afford to buy out of pocket. I don't need time to solve my problem and I didn't want or need your feelings towards bank loans and what is and isn't right for my family keep that stuff to yourself and deal with your own problems the way you want to and not tell people how you feel they should deal with things because they are not you.

Yes,as people get more and more, you can get the feel of the walls closing in.I know I did.But it passed, thankfully. If I were you,I wouldn't seek help at a bank for a loan.I think it's just not worth it.Of course, you can see the dream of your life quicker, but I don't think it's for the good.In my opinion,a bank loan is like a man who gives you an umbrella in a sunny day and takes it back when it rains. But don't worry, time will solve the problems.

My husband and I just bought our first house a little less than a year ago and we love it! We have 4 bedrooms (possible small 5th bedroom in the basement if we needed it to be). We have a ton of living space, plenty of room for the kids, 3 full bathrooms, big backyard....the space and the privacy of owning a home is great, but on the downside, you don't get some of the amenities that you receive for apartment living. You have to do your own landscaping, if something breaks, it's on you to fix it. So if your washer goes out, you have to replace it. But if you're someone who likes to keep a lot of company and have frequent parties, a house would be a great choice for you. Good Luck!

I am jealous!Man,what fine piece of land you acquired.I bet it was worth every penny! Well,I don't see buying a house in the foremost future.I can't seem to get enough money to do so.But,I can save money, and sometime, when I will get paid,My stash of money will grow big enough to afford a house. And then I will feel accomplished!

It actually doesn't cost as much to buy a house as some people think. I used to think that we were going to have to have a $20,000 down payment and make a crazy mortgage payment every month. But once we talked to a realtor, we saw that it was none of the above. There are even programs out there that can help with purchasing a home. Some people offer the "lease with option to buy" which basically means that in the time that you "rent" the house, a portion of that money goes toward your down payment when you're ready to buy. And buying is better for YOU in the long run. When you rent, you just rent. And then if you move, you have nothing of ALL the money that you've put into your rent. When you purchase, you are at least building equity on your home and any improvements that you make to your home, increase it's value. In some cases, buying costs less than renting. And in some cases, a mortgage is less than what you would pay in rent (for a 2 or 3 bedroom apt). I hope one day that are able to purchase your own home! I promise, you won't regret it! =)

I live in an apartment and I think it works best for me. I don't have to fix anything and the management company is reasonably quick to fix problems. I am fortunate that most of my neighbours are pretty nice and our kids play together. I can see the appeal to a house, though - it would be nice to have a yard, at the very least.

Yes,but we must feel good with what we have.Of course, maybe we haven't seen the perks an apartment has.Maybe he will see it in the future. Meanwhile,we'll be sticking here.At least for now.

We used to live in a bungalow but it got flooded last month so we have to move to a new home. We now temporarily live in an apartment building and we just rent one room. I don't know if we will still go back to out bungalow since it's own own house and lot.

I agree with you.It is more difficult to get hold of a house than of an apartment.I think waiting plays a crucial role in this equation. Yes,some us have to cope with what we have. But I dare to hope that, one day,I can accomplish my dream, and I will have my house.

But now here the house is very big that half of it we are not using. It is a very old house about 100 years old. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.

I live in a 3 bedroom semi detached bungalow due to having a disabled son that must have wheelchair access. We moved here in 2010 and I need to have a small mortgage to afford to live here. Before this one I hadn't needed a mortgage because I could buy the property outright. My second home was a 2 bedroom terraced house overlooking fields. My disabled son was three years old when we moved from there and my daughter was one year old. I owned that house for 5 years. Before that I lived in my two bedroom cottage in a village far away from where I live now. I owned that for 14 years. I let it out when I went off traveling around the world. The day I bought it I was 19 years old and the day I sold it I was 33 years old. I didn't like owning it leasehold and it had a maintenance charge which was hard to afford. I moved from it due to my brother-in-law getting a job in a totally different area. I feel that where I live is where I will live for the rest of my life because it is perfect for my family. I like my bungalow and am happy living here. I like living close to my mum and my sister. I do miss Kent where I used to live. Also I miss being near the London airports. I now live in Somerset just 3 miles from the sea. I hope you will buy a house one day. Good luck.
