Have you ever dreamed of visiting Russia? If so how possible is it for you to go there? I am put off by the super expensive visa and the paper work for it. In 1990 I was in Finland and I dreamed of visiting St Petersburg in Russia. I couldn't have afforded the accommodation because it was way too pricey. Years later in 2008 I was in the Baltic Countries. Again I couldn't afford the visa to visit Russia. I was reading a travel guide book for Eastern Europe. There is a loop hole that says travel by ferry from Helsinki in Finland to St Petersburg and stay there visa free for up to 72 hours. So that would be great for a short break. If I end up visiting Ukraine maybe I might bother to finally get a visa to visit Russia. Perhaps it would be waste to pay loads of money for a Russian visa and just visit St Petersburg and Moscow. What do you think given all that bother? There are trains from Moscow to China even. Wow! Would you get bored if you traveled all the way from Moscow to Beijing?

A lady in my church is from Russia. She came over around the age of 32 to go to college here. She doesn't paint a picture I'd like to visit. However, she was living there. My brother-in-law toured Europe with his then college choir. He thought Russia was great. So maybe she's looking at it from how it was to live there, and he's just thinking how a short visit comes off.

I want to visit Russia, but so far the visa requirements has prevented me from going to Russia. When I was in Estonia I was extremely close to Russia. I visited an Estonia town called Narva in the eastern part of Estonia. Half of that town is Estonian and the other half is Russian. I visited the place where Estonia ended and Russia started and I was literally a few meters away from Russia. I really wanted to cross the border and explore the Russian part of the town as well, but without a visa it was impossible and I had to remain in the Estonian part of town. One day I want to visit Russia, and I have already planned how I would spend the time there. I want to fly from Denmark to St Petersburg and spend some time there, then I would travel to Moscow where I would do some sightseeing and catch a train to Siberia. I would like to travel on the Transsiberian railway and I would go all the way to Vladivostok. I would make a few stops on the way for instance when I got the area around the lake Baikal.

Oh maximax..I am told the hotel rates in Russia are one of the highest..so it is not exactly tourist friendly .. You have traveled a lot, and from your experience, can you advise a country that is beautiful, does not cost much either to travel or to stay and food is fairly palatable. I am one of those who cant spare much for traveling abroad. :)

I visited Russia already, because I use to date a Russian woman and I also became obsessed with their music at certain point of my life. I remember visiting Moscow to watch T.a.t.u live in concert, i also love other Russian artist like the singer Song writer Peter Nalitch, the rock band Zveri and the Punk band Tarakany. I love that red soup Borscht and I love Beef Stroganoff. Saint's Basil Cathedral is the most beautiful church I had ever seen. I haven't seen enough of Russia as you see but I may visit again. next year I am planning to visit Sweden.
