I had forgotten how good they are. This one was great and I have a couple of more since I bought three because they were on sale. So I got curious about how healthy they are and looked it up. Here is what I found: Pears provide a good source of fiber, vitamin B2, C, E, copper, and potassium. They are an excellent source of pectin, which is a water soluble fiber. Pears are actually higher in pectin than apples. This makes them effective in helping to lower cholesterol levels and in toning the intestines. They are often recommended by health care practitioners as a hypoallergenic fruit that is high in fiber. They are less likely to produce an adverse response than other fruits. Pears are often recommended as a safe fruit to introduce to infants. So they appear to be very good for ones health was well as tasting good.

I really like pears too but they have to be sweet, juicy and not hard and crunchy. I always seem to find pears that are too hard...they are like ruddy rocks! Pears apples and bananas are the main fruits introduced to babies here in Australia, have been for donkey's years.

You need to get nice ripe Bartlett pears; they usually are less hard.

Pears are SO delicious. I'm telling you, just in the past year I have been starting to have almost a LOVE affair with fresh fruits and vegetables. Growing up I was a junk food junkie and never even realized the goodness of fruit, but I have grown wiser. I LOVE pears, so yummie. I like them when they are kind of soft, I do not like HARD pears!

I think Bartletts are probably the ones you would like best since I think they are softer. Of course they have to be ripe and they can have a narrow window on the ripeness so it is hard to stock up on them. They tend to have blemishes on the skin so you have to be able to ignore that.

Here they are expensive, so I rarely buy pears. My area grows lemons and oranges, so they are the fruit that is affordable. Lemons cost nothing just walk to my back yard.

yeah I really like pears, a lot more than apples actually but they're just not as popular in shops where I live, there are so many different kinds of apples around here. Fortunately for me though, my neighbour has a pear tree in her garden and whenever her pears are ready for picking lets me have a whole lot. She lives on her own so she doesn't eat that much and me and my family get whatever she can't finish. They taste wonderful and its good to know they're also that healthy. I'll remember that.

Very interesting indeed. I didn't realize they were THAT good for you. I'm going shopping tomorrow and now I will buy a few. I always like them, just never got into the habit of purchasing them all the time. I have trouble with fruit because sometimes I think it's too sweet. Yeh, I know, I'm strange, lol! I do remember though when my children were little I always had these on hand. And, it was one of the first fruits my children ate as infants. Also good for constipation too if I remember correctly. I have a taste for one right this very minute, lol!
