Discussion Block - what to do?

August 30, 2012 2:30am CST
So I am sitting here looking at the screen and I don't have any inspiration for starting a new discussion. Is that a good sign that I should not bother starting a new discussion and just respond to others, or should I push through and try and start my own discussion even if the topic is perhaps not going to be as interesting? I am hesitant to do this as I really believe we should be trying to start quality discussions, not just a high quantity of discussions, but sometimes you just have to start to get the creative juices flowing. The first one or two discussions may me mediocre but then hopefully something breaks and you get into the swing of things. What do you think?

I have never forced myself to start a topic here... I just enjoy any discussions that interest me. If I happen to come up with something I can start a topic with, then I'll just do it. I'm here basically every day since I joined, but my started discussions are barely 10% of discussions I responded to. It doesn't really matter to me; I know I'm not a particularly creative person.

You say you are not a very creative person, but your little avatar looks quite creative. What is it? I guess I just enjoy the idea of starting an interesting discussion more than I enjoy commenting on someone else's - I do comment as well. I am just saying that I prefer to start my own and then answer the responses that people make to it.

He's Doraemon. Frankly, I don't know much about him either. He's suppose to be a cat. I don't know if his character is creative, lazy, or what... All I know is he's cute, and he's blue; I like blue!

I think that responding to discussions is a great thing to do if you feel you have "discussion block" as you call it. I don't think that you should stress out because you do not have a discussion in mind that you want to start. You are supposed to be having FUN on myLot, not stressing out :) If you just browse around myLot and see what other people are talking about and respond to discussions then maybe your mind will get off of the thought of you having no discussion starters in mind.

Glad you're not stressin' out, it's just when I read your words about should you "push through" that kind of rings of one that is really trying to force something to happen. I can totally identify with the moment that you wrote this discussion then you had several other ideas, it happens like that often for a lot of people I would say, which is a good thing. Sometimes I have the "plight" of having TOO many ideas when I start typing. I just tell myself to calm down. Sometimes, I get waaaay too excited about being on the computer!

Hi "HomeBase" - I wouldn't say that I am stressing out. I am having fun. In fact I really should be doing something else with my time right now, but I am enjoying myself here too much and can't seem to get away from it!!! as it turns out, the moment I wrote this discussion, I had several other ideas and the ball started rolling - then I answered other peoples responses and I haven't stopped typing, so in a way I guess I answered my own question. Thanks.
