Oh, my aching back!

Yesterday, I did a lot of cleaning around the house. Swept the stairs, vacuumed the rugs, washed the kitchen floor, etc. then pulled a bunch of overgrown alyssum out of the flower beds. I felt good going to bed after my bath. I felt ok this morning until some neighbors came by for a visit and the one went on and on talking about paranormal things. His favorite saying is "To make a long story short" but in actuality he has never told a short story... So anyway, I decided to sit down. (We had been standing around outside.) Big mistake! I couldn't get up again on my own power. I had pinched a nerve in my lower back and even just trying to clear my throat was painful. I took some meds and laid down for a couple hours. It is now almost 4pm and it's still sore. That'll teach me to do house work!

Boy! What came over you? It's the end of Summer not Spring! Hehe Sometimes a warm bath with epson salts added does the trick taking soreness out of the body. I don't know why people use that saying for it rarely is the case. I am so out of shape I can't do house work anymore. Thank goodness I have my daughter here with me. Hope your back is better.

Thanks. So do I. What makes it worse, is today is Monday, and I usually go for physio for my back on Mondays (and Thursdays) but because today is a holiday, I can't get treatment when I really need it.

Actually, I'm going in today (Wednesday) at 10:30. It's still sore, but not debilitating like it was on Monday.

Oh dear.. Here is someone with my type of problems. I have stopped stressing myself about household chores because of that "pinched nerve". I get up and sit with great deal of caution. I dont want to become a liability on anybody. I went on pilgrimage and was unable to walk without footwear and my aunt was so concerned fearing that I may be losing my mobility. So she has stipulated..no using lifts, only staircase, and no forgetting calcium vitamin D and bcomplex and aspirin. How I hate taking those medicines. :) So I am with yogurt. lol.

I've always been active, so it's not a lack of conditioning. The first time I experienced this type of backache, I was about 18 and had shovelled the snow off the driveway. I was fine until it was time to go to bed, and I couldn't get off the couch without my mother helping me.

wow, you did a good job and for sure you got backache because long long time you just did housework 1 time, if you do housework everyday, i am very sure that you won't get backache anymore....it looks like practicing... You can rub hot oil on pain areas and take a rest. I hope your back is fine soon.

The rain just makes me sleepy. Which, I guess, is a good thing right now as I won't be overdoing it again today.

Oh, totally understand ! That's definitely when you over do it. Or believing in the saying "No pain, no gain." lol But there are some times you can't continue doing it, because you're not gaining anything except time laid up recuperating!

Unfortunately I have found as we get older doing a lot of different things gets to be quite painful and difficult. Maybe not when we first do something, but many times it is often the next day. I hope by now you find yourself feeling better and back to being more yourself. Maybe next time you will have to pace yourself and not do everything at once.

I fell on my back in the shower on the faucet head when I was 16, and I have had terrible back pain ever since. I know what it is like to have to do everyday things with a back that can give out on you at any time.

Join the club I have a backache every day of my life. I have osteoarthritis, and I just wish I had more days with no pain. I can count the days on my hand that I feel good.

I understand how you feel as I also sometimes feel back pains. I have worked in the ambulance service for 13 years and those years probably have taken its toll on my back. Years of lifting patients and doing rescue work. Well, you should rest well and perhaps try to have a massage. Just make sure that the person who does it is good at doing such as it might cause more harm than good.

A massage would be nice but it's not the muscles that are sore. I have degenerative disc disease.

Sounds as if you got quite a bit done! Good for you. Perhaps if you had not been standing for so long in one place it would not have been as bad. I hope that you feel better quickly.

Yes, I do the same atleast every 15 days time. I want the place more neat and clean and start from the morning Sunday and it will go on mid night. The last Sunday I was cleaning the garden areas in the home and all the other areas got dirty and wife was angry that not completing it early. Anyway, I told her that you are there at home for all the 5-6 days and don't care of it and when I do cleaning and helping, she will get angry. So I asked her to go out somewhere till evening and I will manage to do everything so nicely. And she gone out with children and by evening I did all so well. ahahah

Don't be too hard on yourself. Pushing yourself too much might cause you more than just a twisted nerve. You can always do the cleaning of other stuff the following day. But really, sometimes I also feel a little "hyper" myself. But after a day's work, a hit the sack early. I pop up a pain reliever, though.

A colleague was having a back ache yesterday too while here at work, so during break time, she went to a nearest mall and have a back massage for half an hour which really ease the ache.

Sometimes it's nice to "feel the burn" but it sounds like it has gone a little further than that in your case; that's too bad! Rest it as much as you can but at the same time don't over rest it or you might make it too stiff, take care.

Normally, I let the housework slide until I can't stand it anymore and then I overdo it and remember why I let it slide in the first place.

hi BarbaraPrz ouch makes my sore shoulder hurt thinking about your backache from doing too much cleaning. oddly its when we sit down after standing for awhile the pain hits. with me its 'my left shoulder as sometimes I sit crookedly here while typing.odd too as I have a bionic shoulder joint, shades of WonderWoman. But the muscles attached to the steel and plastic joint do somethimes hurt. lol

I do experience that lately, I had an article it says, we need to maintain our proper body mechanics, like activities that will strain our lower back.
