I read in an article via LinkedIn that Wal-Mart Stores Inc is testing a Scan & Go system. This new idea will allow shoppers to scan every item that they intend to buy using their iPhones and then when they are done picking everything they need they can easily go to a self-checkout counter and pay. This they hope will reduce if not totally eliminate the long queues wait times at the check-out counters. In my opinion this would work and it will definitely reduce the queue waiting time. What do you guys think?

A Great idea,if you were already drinking the iphone kool-aid... what's wrong with the self scan equipment they already have? The checkout machine would still have to work out that everything you're taking has been paid for,so you'll still have to process each item before bagging it..I doubt if just scanning stuff into your app on the way round the store is the most honest way of doing this.. otherwise, what's to stop someone only scanning half their cartload into the app and paying for that, and then walking out with all of it?

The self scan checkouts in supermarkets here have a built in weighscale that will recognise each item as you place it in the bagging area..they're quick to flag any discrepancies...even an item leaning against the side of the unit or not squarely set down can cause an error having it call for a member of staff..
