Attachment to things…

I just witnessed a grown man cry, and I think the reason he cried was somewhat weird to me… He sold his first car which he had owned for the last 15 years… He cried as the new owner were driving away with it… Ok, I understand that it was his very first car which he bought brand new with his own hard earned money. I knew that for the first few years he did not even drive the car much. He kept it looking new, nice and clean in his garage too afraid to drive it where it might get some scratches and opted to take public transportation to work instead. He had finally agreed heavy heartedly to sell the car to raise money for his son’s college tuition. And it did sell for a handsome price even though it is an older model car but it has a very low mileage and obviously very well maintained. It is just so strange to me to see him that emotionally attached to a car. I try to remember if I have any such attachment to any particular thing, but I cannot recall anything… I have my possessions come and go, either sold or given away, but I’ve never felt that sad about it…

I guess your friend had a lot of memories in that old car. I haven't cried for a thing yet. But if it does, I guess the object is really very sentimental to me.

Yeah, it was the first brand new car he has ever bought with his own money. He has other cars older and newer than that one which he parted with... But only this one he shed tears for; strange, I'd say...
