Do you prefer to bring hot or cold items for a bbq?

I usually ask the host what they prefer, if it's a BYOM (bring your own meat) we will bring steaks or burgers marinated and prepped to grill, and sometimes I'll bring marinated shrimp. I also like to make stuffed mushrooms, but if I have little to no time I will bring fresh fruit or veggies. What you do you like to bring - and do you ask your host for suggestions or just bring what's easiest for you? I've been at a few where everyone brought the same sides - too many chips - or nobody brought any drinks, or there were steaks, burgers, hot dogs, and sausages and the host had to run to the store to get buns because nobody brought any.

hi, for me,i prefer to bring a easy to prepare food or the easy to cook such as hotdogs, marinated barbeque, usually those grilled and fried food, but its more delicious if the food is hot rather than the cold one because cold usually are desert.

For me, it depends on the kind of access that there is to plugs or something that will be able to keep a hot dish hot. If there is no access to electricity, then I will just bring something that is cold. We went to a pot luck bbq last year and one of the girls brought this salad that was greens, goat cheese, avocado and candied walnuts, topped with a raspberry vinegarette and that was probably the best thing that I've ever eaten.

I prefer to ask the host what do they want me to bring. If they say it's up to me, then i like to bring cold food. i make a great macaroni salad and potato salad. I don't eat pork, so i prefer to bring my own turkey sausages. I love to bring a few cocktail fixings. Whats a good bbq without some cocktails. When we have a bbq, my aunt gives everyone something to bring. this way we make sure everything is covered

Reading your post made me look forward to New Year's Eve. LOL. My husband told me that we are going to have a barbeque party this year. I haven't been to a bbq party for a decade, maybe. LOL. I guess we have to decide about the things which we need in the party so that we won't worry if there are too many or none at all. Planning ahead will make the party memorable and enjoyable to all. Thanks for sharing and happy mylotting.

Hi, I prefer bringing cold items to a bbq. My work had a bbq last month. I brought coleslaw to the bbq. When my work has a bbq once a month, everyone brings a dessert or side dish to share. This works out really well.
