A disappointing course

Tonight I got an email from one of my online friends and she was quite upset. She had signed up for an art course. It wasn't a part of her education, but she is wanted to take that course because she likes to draw in her free time and she would like to learn new things. She was disappointed in the course because the teacher didn't listen to the students' suggestions at all. The teacher was condescending, and she told the the students that she didn't expect much from them. My friend was so frustrated that she decided to leave the course when she had been there twice. She tried to get the money back, but she was told that isn't wasn't possible to get the money back. She is sad and frustrated, but there isn't much she can do about it now. Did you ever sign up for a course where you got disappointed in the teacher or the quality of the lessons and wanted to leave before the course was over? What happened? What would you do in that situation? Would you continue because you already paid for the course or would you quit because you think that it would be a waste of time to continue?

I think I'd just continue the course. Maybe it's too early for her to tell that she didn't like it just because of the teacher. I wouldn't want anyone to ruin my passion by somebody I didn't like. That is, if that is really my passion, not just some sort of a hobby or something like that. In fact, I would take it as a cue that God gave me that problem with my teacher to pursue more, to strive harder to achieve something. Or maybe struggle more to impress that teacher. And when that happens, that is a lifetime achievement for me. :)

I like your attitude, and I believe that people appear in our lives because we have to learn something from the experience. My friend doesn't share those thoughts and she has decided to leave the course because she was very disappointed in the teacher. She was very excited about the course before she started, but when she had been there a couple of times she decided to leave because she felt that the teacher didn't listen to her ideas or the ideas of the other students. Unfortunately she can't get her money back, and she is very sad and frustrated.

I still remember in my collage days I have a professor in one of my major subject. We can't understand the way he teach, I just finished the course for it is really a waste of money if I will drop the subject. I just finished the subject without learning.

That is the problem. If we have already paid for the course it would be a waste of money if we just leave. It is sounds frsutrating to have a professor who teach in way that you can't understaand. I made the wrong choice some time ago and I signed up for a psychology course that wasn't worth the money, but I was very lucky and I was able to get most of the money back when I discovered that the course didn't live up to my expectations. My friend tried to get the money back as well, but her request was rejected.

Porco, sometimes it is hard to predict whether the course that we sign-up have the same impression as we are thinking. One of my cousins ever gone through the same disappointment when she discovered that the teacher is not as expert as she had mentioned in the brochure. She enrolled in a typing class and only to discovered that she and the other students all had been cheated. The so-called teacher don't even able to type well herself. She had made quite a few silly mistakes herself. But, what to do, the money once paid are not refundable. So, my cousin just be patience and continue the course until graduate. Although she didn't learn much but at least given the opportunity to hands-on experience doing the typing.

Oh no, it is disappointing! So sorry to hear that about your friend, the teacher really isn't worth all the time, money and trouble if that is how she "teaches". Maybe she can just get some materials or hand outs from the course and not actually sit through the whole lessons? I never had any experiences like this. Before I sign up for anything, I make sure that I know what I am getting myself into. Also, I ask if they can allow me to sit in one session so I can get the feel on how the teaching system is being implemented. Usually they allow me to sit in one lesson for free.

Yes, it is very disappointing and I understand that my friend is frustrated. The course is not even in her own town and she also had to spend time money and time on commuting and she definately doesn't feel that this course is worth her time or her money. I think that it is a very good idea to get one free lesson because that gives you the chance to find out if you will enjoy the course or not. I don't think that the schools in my country allow people to do the same thing, but I did manage to get some of money back one time when I was disappointed in the course.
