Keyboard Concept...

So the keyboard for the modern computers are inspired by the typewriters. I know that the concept was QWERTY keyboards remained intact with the computers as most people have become accustomed with typing in a typewriter. So my query goes a set backwards. Any reason why the typewriters used QWERTY keyboard and not alphabetical order?

May be, the QWERTY arrangement was easier with some kind of ASCII coding, or easy for assembling. Otherwise, the keyboard layout might even had been "ABC.......XYZ" also.
