I wonder if they still do this. (prison rodeo)

A long time ago a person in our church asked my dad to go visit their relative in prison. My dad agreed, and went to visit the man. He happened to pick the day they had a prison rodeo. The guy in charge would stick a one hundred dollar bill on the bull's head, then let any prisoner who wanted to try get out there in the ring and try to get the hundred dollars off of its head. And many many guys tried to do it. It was a minimum security prison, and I guess the money would come in handy in the canteen or something. No matter where you are, you can always use some money. Ever been to one of these?

I live in Idaho and we have a rodeo here every year. I have never been to one. Not sure what our prison does for entertainment. I don't think they let them do such things. It is good to work with such people at the prisons and help them find interests and things to do with their time.

He goes back to wherever he came from. Whether it be an actual rodeo, or a farm.

I have never heard of such a thing. They could not pay me enough to do that.

It would never work in a women's prison. We're too smart to try it.

I've never been to a prison rodeo but I know some guys who started a rodeo ministry. I guess if you were in prison and needed money that would be a cruel way to get it, I'm sure there are worse ways but that one is pretty bad. I guess the guards don't care much for the inmates and would probably like to see them mauled over $100.00 bucks.

It wasn't the guards. Because I totally understand what you're saying. But the organization of it, the idea of it comes straight from the top. The guards wouldn't have any way of putting it together, to get the okay...

I have heard about the prison rodeos but I am not sure that they still allow them. I remember people talking about how good of a rodeo they were because the guys were very tough and would not quit easily!

I think the prisoners would love to have them. It's the activists on prisoner's behalfs that I think would actually get in the way of them.

I watched many rodeos in my early years and even use to do a lot of roping cattle. Its a hard job and there is no way I'm going to try getting money off a bulls head. I did try the mechanical bull riding and boy can you get sore fast.

No, can't say that I have. I've been to a regular rodeo and saw kids chase a sheep or a calf for something that was tied on them which was really cute to watch. My dad used to ride bulls in rodeo shows in Idaho way back in his young days.... way before he married my mom. It was cool to hear him tell his tales and ventures. After seeing a rodeo myself, I can't imagine anyone having the gumption to try, not alone, do it! They're either mighty brave or mighty stupid! I can't say which! lol
