My grandson`s birthday

Tday is one of my grandson`s birthday. He`s' turning 9. Next Saturday he`s inviting some of his friends for a party and the family will see him at another occation as there are 3 family birthdays in October at my daughter`s home. My daughter could not cope with spending money to take him and his friends to a restaurant with games and such. So she "hired" her daughter (my eldest granddaughter, 22) and her boyfriend to take care of tthe party. They are in charge of the invitations, the hotdogs and sodas, the cake and even the bruises as it`s going to be an only boys party and they will be playing soccer all the time. I think that was quite witty of my daughter: she`ll have less work and Carolina and her BF will be happily earning some money. What do you do at your children`s birthdays? Share!

hi marguicha! that is very good way to celebrate a birthday in an affordable way. birthday parties need not be expensive in my opinion. anyway, that was good thinking on your daughter's part. she gets to celebrate her son's birthday and at the same time gets her daughter involved in organizing the party. for my daughter's birthday parties, it is usually spent at a restaurant or at her school. after that we then have a smaller party and get-together at home with family and friends. cheers and happy mylotting!!!

hi marguicha. that was how i spent my birthdays when i was a kid... my mom would cook spaghetti, hotdogs, chicken, and make sandwiches to serve to our guests. she would order a cake and buy small tokens such as toys and candy and create her own goodie bags to be given to the other kids in the party. anyway, i have never experienced celebrating my birthday at a restaurant when i was a child. i had celebrated my tenth birthday at school and that was a blast. i can still remember the day like it was yesterday. my mom and dad brought food at our classroom and my teacher was kind enough to make our recess two and a half hours so everyone in class can have fun and we were able to have parlor games. good times!!!

I remember that that even made beautiful custom ppaper hats for the children when I celebrated my daughter`s birthday One of the highlights was a big jello with several colours made at home.. As for my own birthdays, I remember my mom making hot chocolate , a homemade cake and small sandwichs.

When my children were kids, only rich people took their children and friends out for their birthdays. And now, here, it is quite expensive still. So my daughters do what I did: buy yummy food and hotdogs, a piƱata and other goodies and the kids have a lovely time at home. Fortunatly we all have houses that are big enough so that this can be done. When the children were smaller, my daughters talked with the pre school teachers and sent a birthday cake to school so all the children would have fun.

According to my boys, we always did the birthday thing at home. A few years ago, when I "woke up", my kids, my other half and our employees decided to give me a birthday party. I hadn't had one since I was five. I got a pretty dress, we went to chuckee cheese pizza where they have all kinds of games and this big crawl tube maze that runs all over the ceiling. We all went up in there and were chasing each other around, I had cake with candles, and everyone brought me presents, and they all gave me their game tickets so I also got a clock and a big beach ball. It was the best birthday ever, even though I was still really scared to be outside and around people. Now that I can't go out anymore, I think about my best birthday ever a lot, actually. My boys get presents from me every year, and they always call on my birthday, but they have lives of their own these days so I usually don't get to see them. I have pretty much cancelled my birthday due to lack of interest LOL. It must be great to have grandkids-- I haven't any, but then again I'm still not used to having kids! It sounds like your daughter played it smart.

At this time, one of my boys is an over the road trucker, the other is down in Arizona, as is my other half-- and they will all be busy all winter. Since my birthday is in February, I won't have any company on my B-day anyway. But I don't really mind, since I had the best birthday party ever several years ago. I know they will all call and send cards or presents when the day comes around, though my other half has to be reminded. He never remembers birthdays, including his own LOL. When you have your next party, post pics for us :-)

My daughter did play it smart, killing two birds with one stone! But she will still be there to supervise of course as the children are her responsibility. I also had awesome birthdays in the past, but now I live alone and my daughters each have their own lives. Sometimes, not every year, I invite my friends and have a party. One of my friends is always in charge of getting a candle for me to blow and also takes some pictures of the event

That is brilliant. She gets to help her sister without making it look like a hand out.Aunt and boyfriend/uncle get to have fun with the kids and Mom gets a night off! Brilliant! I have no kids but I do remember the one time I didn't miss my mom is when I was with my friends. I would assume that I would ask my child what he/she wanted and then try to make it happen.

Ok. That is wonderful! There is a gap between my sister and me . I can't tell you how many years. She is very sensitive about her age.

Carolina is not her sister, but her eldest daughter. There is a big age difference between Carolina and Vicente, but they are sister and brother. So it`s even more brillian, as you see. I`m sure that my daughter will be at home anyway, but she can take a nap or see a DVD with her husband.

I still like birthdays, Hatley. I had a nice birthday party with my friends this year. I don`t do it every year, but I don`t want to miss anything now with this cancer stuff that is waiting around the corner

It's been 15 years since my sister was 9 years old. Our family just bought snacks, cake, birthday presents to give to all of the kids that came to the party, and a clown that would do some magics like: stabbing a balloon in a way it don't explode and etc... Some funny games, competitions like puffing a cotton as fast as one can, competing against someone else... Those were good times. I sometimes went to birthdays myself when I was young. I liked the snacks, the cake and the presents that were given to everyone who came. Until the whole kissing girls thing started...I was so shy and I just stopped going to birthday parties until the age of 15.

Some girls grow up before others. I was quite innocent at that age, as compared to my school chums. They laughed a lot at me and I was quite shy too. Yet I got married way before they did and got the big prize at the lottery as husband`s go. My grandson prefers a soccer ball to a clown at this age

Hi marguicha, thanks for sharing, that is a nice story and I am sure your grandson and his friends will have a great time.. My grandson (13) just had a birthday in August and he had his mind set on this peticular skateboard...now he already has his mind on this skateboard..so he came to NANA... Well we ordered in on the computer,,with all the parts is was $86.00 because he wanted to assemble it his self so he also need to order the tools for that...everything but the trucks which are the wheels,,,now he needed an additional $50.00 for the wheels, and of course I bought those also... He is a good kid so I really didn't mind...But I also told him not asked for anything else until Chrismas...LOL

I called Vicente to ask him what did he want me to give him and he replied "surprise me!" I loved the answer, but I told him that I had no clue about what he liked. So now I have to find a certain lego hero something. I hope it`s not too expensive as I know those toys end up being eaten by their dog.

Happy birthday to your grandson. I think its awesome that Carolina will earn money for planning the party and taking care of all the details since your grandsons mother doesnt want to do it haha. Lots of people are like that thats why there are party planners who are able to make a living because they do what some people dont want to take the time to do. A party where kids play soccer sounds so fun my parents did that with me and my friends one year when I was about 8 or 9. This year for my sons birthday which is two saturdays from now is going to be at a local bowling alley.

I can understand my daughter. She has three children and works all day. Besides that, her partmer has 4 children by his previous marriage. Even though part of them are not children anymore, they still have to be fed and helped out with their education.

I hope so too, Jo. And I hope they have good weather. It`s Spring here and sometimes it rains. Let`s hope we have a sunny day as we had today.

This is such a good idea and it is a win win situation. It sometimes seems as if the parties are put on to impress the parent of the children invited and this, in my opinion is so ridiculous. Your daughter sounds to be quite a an innoivative lady and I hope that all invited - especially your grandson- will enjoy the party. football all day? What more could they want?

I`m sure they will have lots of fun. I do hope it won`t rain though as you cannot count on the weather in Spring. Still, I`m sure children have a big capacity for having fun.

hi marguicha As long as we celebrated my nephews birthday at home I was the official decorator and brother would help me decorate. But since last two birthdays, we are using the services from a nearby hotel as his number of friends increased and the space in the house fell short Now, I look at the invitation cards and the bye bye gifts (I dont know what these are called but these are the returning gifts for the invites - normally a pack of chocolates or we even had a set of pens and pencils last time).

Fortunatly, one of my daughter`s house is very big. This is the place where the party will take place. My other daughter has a smaller house, but she never invites many children so it`s ok too.

No matter how simple a birthday party is for a child, still it is something big for them. I usually hold my kids' birthday party at home, too so that they can play with their friends longer. But usually, on their 1st and 7th birthday, we make it extra special by celebrating it in a restaurant.

I`m sure the boys will have more fun at my daughter`s home than at a restaurant. All they want to do is to play soccer and my daughter has a nice backyard. Carolina makes mean hotdogs and I`m sure that they will take care that everyone has fun.

Sometimes having money helps, but some other times it is being there or helping to prepare things. We talked yesterday With my daughter about Christmas and she was very tired (she works and has a small daughter, besides the rest of the housework). I told her that I could make all the food if she gave me the money to pay for the ingredients.
