Since I have my laptop. I open it in my bedroom and start mylotting while I watch TV. There`s a channel full of these CIS, Criminal minds and the like shows. It`s called AXN (action, we would say). I mylot and listen and watch once in a while and hear names of read bad people. So I check them online. THe Wikipedia had big biographies of these real life killers. I wonder: shouldn`t they have a lower profile at the web? Aren`t we teaching youngsters about killers? I hear the names at the TV and then I can learn all they did here. Yet, if I ask for a professor or even a saint here, there not much to be rwad. What do you think of that? Do you have this feeling?

Regretfully, bad news makes the news and makes television programmes too. People are both repelled and attracted to stories of crime and criminals. I read lots of detective stories too. Goodness and good people do not really make news. I agree that television plays an important part in the development of children and I have to say that yes, we are in danger if making murder attractive in some respects. A balance should be made but who is going to do it? Parents have to vigilant about what their children watch.

I don`t think human nature has changed so much. It`s just that we are "fed" with violence. When I was young, there were good TV shows with good ratings that were comedies and showed the good part of human beings.

Well yes u are absolutely right. There is too much of violence which is being shown on television these days and i am sure the youngsters are getting influenced due to this. On the other hand, a lot of things depends on the youngster's minds. if they take these things in a positive note, then they are no way going to get influenced by this. But there are some who take this seriously and imitate such things personally.
What say?

I remember that some decades ago, my literature thesis was about what I called the "counterspace" that people made in their minds when watching a drama piece at the theater. My thesis was about torture and I was naive enough then to think that people would watch that and reject what was being shown on stage. But now I think that this can be acomplished only if people are taught values so that they can chose. As it is, children`s games are about shooting instead of playing ball and learning to socialise. It`s easy to be influenced by the media. It`s overwhelming and there`s no counterpart.

Well, I will sound like a hypocrite here, but oh well...
I LOVE NCIS, CSI, Criminal minds, true crime novels. Here in the USA, they used to have a saying in journalism: "if it bleeds, it leads" meaning the gory or tragic stories will always get the most attention in the news. I think a lot of ordinary people are fascinated by criminals like this for the same reason we slow down and try to see what's happening at accident sites or stop to watch fires-- we are curious. In the case of wanted to know everything about a mass murderer, we're curious to see if we can "tell" that he is different from ourselves, and how he is different from ordinary people.
That being said, I think that websites or books that glorify the actions of bad or dangerous people are wrong. Murderers and other criminals should be publicized and should be studied and written about but in a way that lets everyone know what they did was wrong, evil and shouldn't be admired. Video games make it seem cool to go around shooting everything and everyone that moves, movies make violence look cool, and that's wrong. Shows like CSI NCIS and Criminal Minds make it very clear that the criminal is BAD and what they did is wrong-- and that is the way it should be. Our children need to see that if you do bad things, then bad things happen to you. As long as they see that these people ARE bad, and wrong, then it's a good thing.

CSI Miami is the only CSI I never liked enough to watch, so I don't know the context. BUT-- Call me a bad person, but if I actually caught someone committing a crime like rape or murder-- as in caught them in the act, I would kill them. Save the cost of a trial. I think that some people are more like rabid dogs than people-- they should be put down. We have actually had cases here in the USA where people have been caught, in the act, and have managed to get off lightly or get off entirely, which is totally wrong. That's the problem with the innocent until proven guilty thing-- as far as I am concerned, if you are caught actually committing a crime, you shouldn't be able to be found not guilty. It boggles the mind, at least for me. Luckily, most juries find defendants guilty when they're caught red-handed, but occasionally guilty people do go free.

I thought that in those shows they clearly placed a line between good and bad people. But this year I saw in one of the CSI Miami that Horatio Caine let the bad guy die when all he had to do was give him a hand.

Funny, how we all have different opinions about this TV shows. I like watching those series a lot more than movies nowadays, because there are really nothing new to see in movies. Before House MD. Went off tv after the conclusion of the final season, it used to be my favourite, and then White Collar. Among all the CSI series, I really detest CSI NY, it's is slow pitch and really focuses on solving the case and not really exposing concrete reasons what motives lead to the murders. That aspect of the show was brief.

Should they have a lower profile? Well, it reminds me of the saying: What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. We live in a culture that glorifies violence; that is not right, but it certainly is popular.
That is how we need to raise "our" children. We need to instill in them the values of peace. However, that does not mean that we can eradicate the culture of violence. We can simply take our stand and try to guide our children and those with whom we regularly interact.

I raised my children to believe in peace. Yet, many times during my life I have asked myself if that was not a good choice, considering the jungle we live in. How can we prepare them for life when they are attacked by the movies, the media and even their own authorities.

Yes laptop is much better than desktop computer. You can easily carry your laptop where you need. When you are on laptop you can watch TV and hear songs by switching on your CD player. It is always better to use latest technology.

There's really something "attractive" in a sordid way to crime and mayhem, like the excitement so to speak in the humdrum of life. It really shouldn't be that way. I know down in the United States the news channels seem to sensationalise the madness. I admit I like to read bios on these big-name criminals on wikipedia because I want to understand the psychology behind their actions. I thought I was the only person who liked to read those wiki articles LOL
As for crime shows, I don't watch those, but I watch documentaries on prison life and gang life at times. Safer that way, no swearing lol.

May we if people would stop reading and paying so much attention to killers, then there will be no interest to write about them. Yes it is necessary to be aware that such bad people exist, but nobody needs the gory details. Most criminals thrive on being written about it!It is their moment of glory!.I think that their punishment would increase if every body ignores them, and they are sent to jail and thrown away the key!!!

i agree, too much of importance is given to the criminals , and all their information can be found on net, but if we search for some good articles we don't get them.
I don't understand why so much of importance is given to such people.
By the way , what makes you to search about such people and watch such programs that too at night?

There`s nothing much to watch on TV here and I liked the CSIs at first, because that thing about the forensic labs was interesting. Then, as I half watched and hlaf did something else. I started "watching" Criminal minds on the same channel. The names were said in the shows and sometimes I look at them with mylot search engine, not to learn but to see if I get a couple more cents
. Now another channel I watched that had comedies and witty shows has turned into the same crime stories, only these are real. I don`t have patience for those.
