I like using different condiments

That's me, I get bored with the regular ketchup, mustard, and relish on my hamburgers, I like bbq sauce. And if there's only ketchup around say at a resturant, I'll add pepper to the ketchup, or parmeasean cheese if they have it. As for sandwiches, I like my mayo, but sometimes I'll reach for the mustard pickles...yum yum. Gotta have a nice different flavour! As for mashed potatoes, instead of the gravy I'll add spices to my potatoes. While everyone else have theirs plain or gravy, I'll go into my kitchen cupboards and find out some tex mex spice, or Italiano spice with parmeasean cheese, that sort of thing. And why put salt on your veggies while we can put a veggie spice mix instead? I am such a hopeless foodie!

That actually seems like a neat idea and I'm sure it makes your food tastier than everyone else's lol. I usually stick to traditional toppings and spices. But I do use hot sauce a lot and I also put ranch on just about everything. Sometimes people think it's weird that I put ranch on so many different things.

I knew a young man who always put ranch dressing in his chili. I think it is good. Apples are good dipped in ranch as well.

Ranch is usually my favourite choice for a salad dressing, and even a good subsitute for mayo on my sandwich, I know sometimes at Subway I'll ask for ranch instead of mayo, since it's a sauce they have available. Must be a popular sauce. Anyway if I were to make a salad at home, I'd always shred some block cheese (nothing processed) and add pepper and a spice mix called Salad Herbs, it has a bit of salt for taste but also some herbs. With chopped tomatoes there's enough moisture on the salad leaves so it's sooo yummy.

GardenGerty- I've never heard of ranch on chili or apples, but I imagine it would taste pretty good Masihi- I love getting ranch at subway. I like mayo but sometimes ranch just tastes better on my sandwiches lol

LOL Hopeless foodie in a good way! I mean you gotta eat so why not enjoy it to the fullest and try to be experiemental with whatever you have in the cupboards. Sometimes they can be expensive so I watch for what's on sale, and I'm even looking into making my own sauces. Today we're having a turkey meal so I'll have my husband's mother's mustard pickles to go with it.

I know that feeling, some spices are hard to find and when I do find them, they're so expensive while I only need a few teaspoons! x_x Maybe when I already have a lot of money I'd fill our kitchen rack with all the spices needed for various recipes. :D

I have found the same...though I like honey mustard and also sweet vidalia onion dressing on meats and mashed. It really gives it a different taste. I am not so much into ketchup anymore either...kinda bland. I used to love it!

You're right, ketchup is quite bland that's why when I'm out I'll add the pepper to it, otherwise if there's barbeque sauce available I'll use that instead. One sauce I haven't tried in ages is HP sauce, oh man I miss it, I'll have try to buy myself a bottle. Honey mustard's good on chicken, I find, we get that from time to time, me luvs mustard! I'll practically dump the whole bottle on my roast beef!!!

I have started to a lot of experimenting with different herbs, spices and condiments etc.The reason or this is because i am a student so i eat quite cheaply this usually involves eating the same boring thing from a tin very regularly.Which you can imagine gets very boring after a while. So i add things to try and make it taste more interesting a good combination i have found is baked beans with curry ketchup and garlic powder really nice.Because of this need to make my food taste more interesting whenever i go shopping i always look for spices, sauces etc that i have never tried before especiallly at a good price.

I'm glad you mentioned curry because I got a bottle of curry powder from the food bank a couple of months ago and was wondering how I can use it and for what dish. I remmeber having Indian curry when I was a kid, in a Montreal resturant, but that's just about it. What do you use for curry sauce? I also know there's curry powder, as well. I like to "dress up" so to speak my kraft dinner, like put some cheese slices in it so it'll be nice and cheesy, and put some freshly-ground black peppercorns in it. I also like chili powder in my tomato sauce beans.

I tend to be the same way in a way, I like my own toppings and spice. I absolutely love Montreal Steak Spice with anything and everything also seasoning salt. I tend to over do it, and many cant stand eatting things I make. For example for mushrooms I'll fry them up with a lot of seasoning or even onions.

I'm not much of a salt lover but I do love seasonings. cheeses, and spices - I mean pepper spices. I love frying onions, though, and putting it on top of meats and potatoes, I season the onions with pepper and fry it in a tiny bit of olive oil so it won't stick to the pan, they're lovely. Anything pepper-y pretty much gets me drooling lol

This is a great way of trying out great flavors! :D I'm also very experimental when it comes to food. I experience dipping a cucumber into soy sauce once (it as an accident though) and when i bit into it, it tasted like an apple. haha! Spices with mashed potatoes are great, they add a rich experience to the usual mash potato flavor... :D

I should find some soy sauce (not the salty kind but the real authentic kind that has a nice delicate flavour), am starting to learn how to fry rice an would need to have the soy sauce for that, for sure. sometimes instead of using plain butter, salt and water I would use herbs and spices to add some flavour to the rice, or even use broths if they're not too salty. Yum yum, sure beats the boring white stuff :-p

:D I'm sure they're available in the Asian or Oriental lanes in supermarkets.. Or online if you find a cheap but good supplier. Soy sauce really does change the flavour of stir fried stuff! Just a tablespoon or so can greatly enrich the taste and aroma as well. HAHA! White rice is good too, but true... after a while they get boring and we want something new. :) I wish you luck with the soy sauce hunting! hihi! :D

In addition to being tasty, many herbs and spices help our health. And vinegar in the condiments is great for digestion as well. We love different flavors on our regular foods, just like you do. I like to mash potatoes with cream cheese and add a dip mix or such. Yum. I even have three different recipes for butternut squash soup. All with different spices and add ins.

It would be nice to have an herb garden, wish Ihad room for that, fresh herbs will give the good benefits of medicines and healthy stuff we need. Unfortunately the dried herbs can be too old to have medicinal benefits and are just good for flavouring, but sometimes you can get some fresh stuff that's been dried. I think those are more expensive than the no-name brands, though.

Chipotle aioli on french fries... That is one of my newest delightful food discoveries. Oh, yummy... Most of my food combinations aren't what one would consider traditional. I'm the one adding curry powder to my mashed potatoes, or having my fries with honey mustard.

ketsup is boring for me. but because i am not really fond of condiments, i would prefer the veggies and grated cheese combination. you remind me of how my hubby and daughter make their sandwiches.

Masihi, i do sometimes adding different condiments to my food makes it tastes difference. But sad to say not every member of my family like that changes. Because of that, only on special day then i would use different condiments to make my dishes tastes difference and more yummy.

I love different spices too. Some people make fun of me because I have 6 different kinds of mustard. I use a different one for a hotdog (the typical Kraft one) than what I use for my raw zuchinni salad (Dijon a l`ancienne). I make my own croutons with diced french bread sauteed in olive oil and garlic and then set to dry in the oven. I like that for creams and lentils. Most of the time I make my own mayo and when company comes, I make some dips with mayo and chives or mayo and crushed garlic. I could go on forever.

Oh big time, and makes my sandwiches and salads much more interesting to eat. I guess I was brought up in a foster home where the foster mother was into gourmet cooking, and she had huuuge selections of herbs and spices and fancy foods, and I took after her, I suppose. She was a good cook, and I myself enjoy experiementing with foods to make them much more interesting than the mundane.

Hi, Masihi :) That sounds very interesting indeed, and still quite yummy, in my opinion. Have fun with your food, why not, so long as you still want to eat it. In fact, sometimes it taste better when you try out new ingredients to add with the old ones, or just create new ones. Food adventure!! Lol.

Hello, masihi! I like putting different condiments on food like those I cook myself. But with sandwiches, I go for the plain mayo or dressing they give. At home we don't have much dressing available but more on the spices for viands. I'd like to try those that you said. Thanks!
