Disk space

I started my computer journey with a computer that had just half GB disk space and at that time I used to religiously delete files which were of no use to me and it helped my efficiency. I now have a 250 GB disk space and to match this space I have loads of files created that I do not even need to see them again. What is it with us that we tend to go lax when we have plenty around us? Is it not also true about the way we live. The more we have the less do we take the trouble to save whatever we need to. Your opinions please.

I can't totally agree with it. I've a 320GB HDD. 50GB used for primary drive and the remaining for space usage. I used up all of the later. Now I download movies inside C:/ which I do not like, but am forced to. Now I'm planning to get myself an 1TB external hard disk. Good day!

I too have fragmented my HDD and the C drive has 25 GB which I did not add. I too have some files stored in there specially when I forget to change the place where I need to download. Here again I have decided to transfer that stuff onto my 'working' Disk.
Honestly, I have found out that what I have downloaded I hardly have time to see and enjoy. I should be more practical and go slow on the temptation of what Internet offers us free!

I agree with you completely here. Even I've a lot of stuffs downloaded in my download folder, for which I have never managed time. That's the reason I've stopped downloading these days.

FYI, the half GB was existent during the early '80s when I had my first computer with a pentium 1 processor, lol! The OS was only around 120 to 200mb and worth saving are mostly just documentary files.

My storage has gone out of hand. I have book marked so many sites, have downloaded songs and what have you but I hardly use any of these. I have so many documents which will not see the light of day and yet there they are. My New Year resolution will be to work on all these files and delete them which will make life easy for me.

I think it is human nature to be lax when there is plenty. It really takes having little to appreciate plenty when it happens. Then it seems that once it does, it is easy to forget or put behind what it was like. I always try to remember where I come from. It puts those half a GB days things in to perspective sometimes.

So the moral of the story is never have more than what you require But you think it is possible? The moment someone tells us that some upgrade is available we would want to grab it and see what has happened to me. I am drowning in those files. I a
m determined now to do something about it, lest it should go beyond redemption!!

Yes. I have to agree with you...we only realized and remember about the things that we have to do if it already compromised our efficiency...

In my case it has gone beyond redemption but I am determined to shrink my storage to a level I will be comfortable with. At the moment it is a nightmare!

It's really difficult to be contended with a very limited disk space. You have to store only what is really necessary and delete files that are not needed. I remembered when I was still using a Pentium II computer, it only has 4.3 GB hard disk capacity. Well, we should really be glad that hard disk capacity nowadays are really large enough to store files that we wanted to. All we have to do is to avoid viruses to run over and get them affected. That's why it's still advisable to back up files time after time. Have a good day!

With the pen drive concept backing up is easy but what does one do with such a huge storage which one never gets back to? I have a big job to do. I have to create folders in my documents file and name them. I have to create folders in my picture files and name them. I have a passion for photography. I must be having well over 2000 pictures stored in different places. I will have to put them all in one place, delete the one's that I don't much fancy and put some law and order there

that is quite too much of a space and it all depends on proper maintenance which must be done regularly

It's simple economics, the law of demand and supply for example. Less means more assessment of what is at hand and trying to find ways to preserve as the cost would be high to acquire more. More means an assurance that you have more than what you need and sometimes we tend to forget the necessity for it to be assessed as there is lots of room to dwell on.

It is greed more than anything else I feel. There is so much out there which we can download least realising that we will not have the time to 'relish'! This happens in our real life too.I just read a response somewhere where one feels lonely but cannot shift to another place as there is a collection of items made over a period of time which cannot accompany the user
