I am very disappointed with Red Dwarf X.

As a long standing fan of Red Dwarf I have been eagerly looking forwarding to the new series. I wondered how tey would cope with the aging of the characters because Kryten being an android and Rimmer being a hologram means that neither of them should age. I was expecting some reference in the first episode to why they were suddenly showing signs of aging, but instead it was totally ignored. I know this may seem a little unreasonable of me, but I cannot believe that we are not supposed to notice such things. Did this make a difference to you or did you just ignore it?

So,to avoid this,You might have been happier with "Red Dwarf: The Animated series",or even more unhappy because they didn't have the CG Character budget of "Avatar" to keep the Guys looking as young as they did? You're supposed to suspend disbelief when watching a series or Movie to go along with the story-I'm just glad to see "The Boys from the Dwarf" teamed up again..

Hello Sheperdspy, I know that you are right and that we should overlook such things, although I did find it rather disappointing. I had been discussing this with a friend prior to the new series starting, and I suggested that maybe they would provide some level of explanation. One suggestion of mine was to make reference to how Kryten and Rimmer had altered their appearance to make Lister feel less conscious of his inevitable age, but they never made any attempt at all and simply expected us not to notice or not to care. I expect that after a few episodes I will be used to the new appearance, but the comparison is so obvious due to the long absence that it was hard to ignore initially.

To be honest I never really noticed data's aging, which is surprising since he should look the same in 200 years time. This may be because I watched the series and you fail to notice the difference if it is gradual, whereas the long gap between the Red Dwarf series made it stand out quite blatantly.

You can't help but notice (and make allowance for) age creeping up on the "Humanoids" in the show, but I haven't really looked closely at RL's Mask to see where the age was showing with him... Rimmer has a precedent in having some alterations to his holo-appearance at various times..Remember him as the Beardy Peaceloving "Give Quiche a Chance" T-shirt wearing anger free personality in "Polymorph"? or the time He accidentally got a female crewmembers torso? You could argue as they no longer have Holly to muck things up that things might go more smoothly..Star Trek-Next Generation had the same problem during its run..Brent Spiner as Data also had some explanations due as an Android showing Age..(You couldn't help but notice on a Cinema screen!) I forget how long he was supposed to be with Starfleet (and unchanged in that time) before he showed up to join the Enterprise -D Crew in "Encounter at Farpoint"..

Hi, I am in Australia, and I like Red Dwarf as well. I had no idea it was being remade. Generally remakes are a bad idea. I guess I'll have to wait until it is screened here in Australia to make up my mind. Thanks for letting me know it's out there. K.

This is true, it is a new series. It is the fact that it the original cast that creates the problem due to the inevitable aging of the actors. In many programs this would not matter because the chronology of the series would fit with older characters. In this case Lister and the cat fit in fine, but they made no attempt to explain why an android and a hologram should be older. Nice to hear from Australia. I was unsure if the program had been shown outside of Britain, now I know that both Australia and the U.S.A. have aired it at some time.

I used to watch the show when it was on here in the US. It was only on Public Broadcasting stations here and not on every one. The fact that the brought it back interests me but I don't know if it will make it back here. Is BBC running the show?

No, it is on an independent channel called Dave. Red Dwarf was originally a BBC program, but was rerun later on Dave. It is Dave that has launched the new series Red Dwarf X.

I haven't heard of Red Dward before.Out of curiosity, I search it online.Oh,It is the British science fiction sitcom.I have no say in that, but judging by the fact that you like to watch such kind of sitcom, you surely have a happy disposition.

Yes, I have to confess to being a lover of silly humour. As you say, red dwarf is s British sitcom, but I cannot be certain that it is not transmitted in other countries, especially the older series.
