Deadline pushes me

I don't know if I am just a procrastinator. But I can't get the work done unless the deadline is near. In my line of work, there are deadlines to respond to written documents. I find myself working mad on the paper when the deadline is near. I get frantic, and at the same time, inspired, when the deadline is near. Suddenly my mind is at work and I am overflowing with ideas. However, when the deadline is still far away, I feel lazy and not the least bit worried.
Deadlines push me to start working. What are your views on this?

I think it could be a combination of procrastination and also of liking that pressure. You do well under pressure and so you will wait. I hope you also enjoy this and it is not a burden. It sounds like you do enjoy this pressure.

I think so. That is what I am getting from what you said and I hope that you'll succeed from this too.

I hate cramming. I always like to do things ahead of time so that I could relax after and not worry of having to beat the deadline. I can concentrate more if I have a lot of time to work on a research that have it done a day or two before the deadline.

Why not try it next time? I am sure you will be relieved after doing something way ahead of time.

From your post I would say you thrive on the excitement of meeting the challenge to finish before the deadline. That's ok as long as you always complete the assignment, but you are probably better off finding another way to motivate yourself. You should give yourself a personal deadline that is a day or two before the real deadline.
As for being a procrastinator or not, do you wait to do all tasks or just the ones at work?

I think you should make a schedule and arrange your time, accurate to minute,so I think you will have more time and will not be pushed by the deadline, get everything is order I think this is the basic principle for office work.

Hello arystine. I have the same problem with this. When I still have enough time, I don't care too much about it until the deadline is dropping near. Then I work very hard to finish what I am needed to do. This often makes me feel busy with the demanded part of work. Enjoy your work.

I think that there are a lot of people who need a deadline to be able to be pushed, and this is why I choose to set myself mini deadlines to make sure that I get things done on time. I saw a lot of my friends miss some deadlines at University because of the fact that they couldn't get things done until just before, and they left it too late. I would never want to do this because I would be annoyed at the fact that I had left things too late when I had more than enough time to get everything finished that I needed to do.

Yes, you are right. In fairness, my mind begins to work when the deadline is near, but still, there are 2 or 3 days left to work on it. I do not cram at the last minute or a day before the deadline. Because just like what you said, it is not a good feeling when there is little time left. Thanks for the response!

As of me, I hate procrastination, my friend.
Unlike you , i don't want to do the assignment when it's nearing deadline, As much as possible, i would do it or give time to it, ahead of the schedule. That way, i still would have time to proof read what i have done, so i can assure myself that it is good,
However, people have different styles of doing things, and it just happens that you are just one of those who would prefer to do a work, just as its deadline is so near already.

I believe that is perfectly normal and I can relate since I am like that sometimes. I tend to "cram". Way back when i was studying, I prepare just the night before the exams. In the end, I realize that I need to prepare early, just to have no regrets. I believe that if that works for us, just stick to it and go ahead. Otherwise, we may try to change it prepare it early and in our own pace. Good luck. Thank you.

I also don't know if it is right to call you a procrastinator. You see I have met lots of people in my line of work who performs better when they are under pressure, like nearing deadlines. Whenever they have to work something that isn't time constrained, they produce so-so results. But if they have to turn in some work that are time sensitive, I notice that they turn in very good works.

That is so same with me. I do our financial report and of course with that I need to gather all the liquidations and stuff or else I cannot complete or submit my work. BUt the problem with me too is I don't do it when there is still loads of time to do, but rather loving the cramming when the deadline is tomorrow.
I could go beyond sleeplessness when I needed to finish my work. I could, as they say "burn my eyebrows" when its needed. hahaha. This is so me even before when I was still in school. I won't mind doing project or research work when the deadline is still far but will do everything when the submission is almost over.
Thanks for sharing. happy mylotting to you. :))

Hello, arystine... sometimes i have similar view like you. But i tried not to be like that, otherwise when the deadline comes, i will be flooded or even over flooded with the outstanding tasks. I have many tasks bearing the same or rather close deadlines, so i cannot afford to do all at one go. However, i did try that before...and i really work my head off...It is really tiring and stressful. But after it is done, i felt refreshed and relieved. Hahaha...

I agree, it is not healthy to be like this when there are many tasks and the deadlines are very close. Lucky for me, my deadlines are usually far apart so I can take my time. And yes, it is relieving after finishing the task and beating the deadline. Thanks for the response. :)

Personally, I think there are many people out there that are like this. I think many times in life we need to have things to push us and encourage and motivate us. Even with things posting here in myLot you will often continue to see more people posting here the end of the month just really trying to reach payout. So I feel often times more people are like you for sure.

Its not a good way to be I know but I am exactly the same. When a deadline is a long time off I keep telling my self that I have got ages and that I don't need to start yet I can wait a few days. This keeps going till I get right up close to the deadline. Then I realise I have left it to late and struggle to finish it in time.Sometimes this involves doing a few all nighters to get the work finished.I am trying to change this though,I have just started at university and have got lots of assignments to do and I really can't leave this till last minute they are just to important.

Actually, this is one area of my current work that is making me seriously think of finding another job. Most days, we'd have parts being shipped, and the deadline for calling in a shipper to have them picked up is 2pm. Almost all the time I'd find myself working towards this deadline. I'd be cramming a lot of paperwork to get more parts out of the door.
As I work towards this daily deadline, I'd be fueled by adrenaline and I'd be working non-stop without any breaks. My lunches have become really late, 2-3pm. Which when I don't get breakfast has made me worried about my health.
I've been thinking about looking for another job because I don't think I like being an adrenaline-junkie.
