Rant about Yahoo Discussion List Errors

Today I did something I've done many times before -- started a Yahoo email discussion list. I must belong to 15 such groups and I own or moderate at least five of them. I've never had a problem until today. The purpose of this private group is to talk about starting a new blogging site, preferably using self-hosted Wordpress. There are three of us on the committee so far + our organization president. Our organization has at least five other Yahoo groups. So, I start the group and invite the other three people to join it. As soon as they signed on, I sent the first test post. Not wanting to waste it, I also addressed one of the questions a committee member had asked before we started the group. At that time we were sending CCs and replying to all. It was cumbersome. Mind you, all I talked about in that first post was the advantages of self hosting vs. the disadvantages of free hosting, and I mentioned a site I was happy with as host where I had just started a new blog. One committee member answered the test message. Then I got a message from Yahoo saying my message (which had been answered) could not be delivered because "Your email was not delivered due to a suspected guidelines violation. Please visit http://groups.yahoo.com/local/guidelines.html If you feel you've gotten this email in error please visit the following link for more information http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?locale=en_US&page=content&y=PROD_ACCT&id=SLN3263" The guidelines indicated I couldn't spam and I couldn't post adult content -- neither of which I'd done, unless I made a typo somewhere. I simply couldn't see where I had violated one of the guidelines, so I followed the second link. When I got there, it said that page was no longer available. I tried a contact button where they make you categorize your question, but my question was outside all their categories. I am one frustrated person. They threaten to delete my account if I violate their guidelines repeatedly, but there seems to be know way to find out just what was so objectionable in the post. By the time I'd given up finding help on the Yahoo site, I got another notification that my second post had bounced for the same reason. It had been a short email in which we only discussed the name of the domain we wanted to register. It's about a book co-op. The .com name is already in use, so I know there should be no objection to that. I am extremely puzzled, and I don't know how to appeal this. I had originally wanted to make this a Google group, but one of our committee members doesn't like Google groups. So I was trying to be accommodating. I just don't have this kind of time to waste on something that should be simple -- something I've done many times before without a problem. Any similar experiences? Advice?

I find Yahoo flakey. I know they are going through major changes over there and E-Bay is also charging members more and more to make up the difference from Yahoo. I do have an email address from Yahoo, but I hardly ever use it. I really never use Yahoo for anything. It seems they complain and block almost everything. I would have thought that Yahoo would have gotten some what better with their new CEO. If I were you I would be totally pissed off about what had happened. From what you have explained it does not look to me that you violated anything. Maybe try contacting management over at Yahoo.

Have you considered using Facebook and doing a closed group? I know that is another option out there. I do not use Yahoo personally myself anymore due to a lot of issues I was having there. Hope you have this situation straightened out more by now.

We have at least one member of our group who will not use Facebook. That's one or two out of four.

Maybe it's cyber-gremlins? I had trouble posting to a discussion here at myLot, just a few minutes ago. (Hope this one posts ok.) Yup. It's cyber-gremlins. This is my second attempt. (Luckily I copied it this time.)

Could be. They've struck before. What's really strange is if I post from my email program on my computer, I get the message returned as in violation. If I make the exact same post from the Yahoo group home, it goes through with no problem. So it can't be the message that's in violation.
