Are you a booker? Are you a Facebooker? Or are you a member on Facebook? Me? I'm a member of Facebook. Are you a Lotter? Are you a myLotter? Or are you a member of myLot? (N.B.I did not say Mylot or Mylots?) Me? I'm a member of myLot and it really cheeses me off and irks me and annoys the carp out of me when people use these incorrect terms. I am NOT A MYlOTTER!! I AM A MEMBER OF MYlOT. what are your feelings on this petty rant of mine?

I am a human being not a myLotter! The term myLotter sounds a lot like an alien race that they might talk about on Star Trek or Star Wars or something. But then, perhaps we are a bit alien like on this site! I have used the term before I must admit, but only because others have and I am not a fan of it, it does sound silly to me too.

Hi Bill, The phrase it resembles is "I am not an animal" but I'm not sure where it's from...it might be the movie of the book "1984" by George Orwell, or it may have been a line from "Animal Farm" by the same author. I remember a discussion way back when someone was suggesting we call ourselves "myLotians" . These terms put me off to the extent that if a discussions begins with the words...Hi Lotters or similar, I just go to the next one in disgust. Lovely to see you.

Of course, it was The Elephant Man. Thanks for the reminder. e were supposed to get a lot of rain this last Thursday/Friday but as usual, it went around us here at Pilliga. Yes, it's dry with just a few light showers and not many of those. There's been no decent rain since July and we could have done with a little more then. The wheat is being harvested at this time so the farmers were wanting it to hold off. My friend is hay making about 16 hours a day and it hasn't been too bad for him either but the garden is suffering. Even the weeds that are my lawn are dying.

The "I am not an animal" term came from The Elephant Man I think from memory. Great to chat to you briefly too. I am far too busy these days to be actively participating on here, but I still check through the emails almost daily, filtering out all those "Hi Lotters" type ones! You guys getting any rain down there? It has been unusually dry here for this time of the year. We normally get a lot more rain throughout October. It keeps threatening, but we never get more than a light sprinkle. Everything is so dry.

Interesting way to look at things, and makes a lot of sense. I can see why it would iritate and frustrate you when someone says things like this. It would me as well, but many things frustrate me about people who use Facebook. But I am a member of Facebook and myLot and could never consider or call it anything more.

Hello my dear friend, I hope you feel better now for the rant! I hear what you are saying, for me it's laterz that annoys me, people say it so often now, especially when I watch television, laters or laterz is not correct! Why people have to shorten and change words I don't know.

Darling wolfie, please don't get me started on the corruption of the English language.

I guess sometimes people use the -er suffix too much. But in a sense, it's still grammatically correct as it indeed designates a person from the organization or group that he or she belongs to, like a myLotter. It's somewhat off-sounding now but maybe in the future, as with so many words similar to this, it would eventually become a recognized word. Words evolve. But like in many rules of grammar, there would always be exceptions, especially if the result of adding the suffix would be an awkward-sounding word. Someone from the US isn't an America-er. As for those using 'myLots,' well, that's a totally different story :)

It can hardly be termed "grammatically correct" when it's a made up word and a proper noun at best.

Actually, it is. Like I said, the suffix -er was appended to a noun, which is myLot, to form the word myLotter, which to describe or designate a person belonging to that group (or place). It's still not acceptable though at present, but the formation of the word does indeed follow the rules of grammar. I'm not saying that it should however be used. I myself refrain from using the word myLotter. I'm just kind of giving another perspective on the matter. I hope I didn't add fuel to the fire. It wasn't my intention, MsTickle.

No problem beamer88. I'm just probably overly touchy on the subject. Mea culpa.

Hi MsTickle I am a mere member of myLot who was passed on the term MyLotter via many discussions when he had joined here and I followed suite as I do not have the right sense of Languages to frame my own Words But elsewhere, I only exist on Facebook and never said that I am a booker - face or anything else And about the rant of yours... why do you think this is a rant anyway? I see it as a good and valid question as they dont describe these terms anywhere on the dictionaries of either MyLot or even Facebook...(unsure yes, and would re-check on the Guidelines and official materials to confirm)

Hello sweety. There's nothing about this in the guidelines or anywhere , it's just something that a large majority of members do and it annoys me intensely. I just think it's really silly to describe the members here in these terms.

Hail fellow member of myLot of the feminine variety. Foresooth thy have a vex upon thee. Fear not friend for thy pain is well felt in these quarters too. It would be derelict of me to advance such a theory to one that is vexed as though the flea has bitten but tarty with your humble servant's contemplations awhile and allow me to beseech thee to live and let live for it mattereth not a jot.

I know that it matters not to anyone else Pikey but forsooth, that flea is having itself a lovely time on my rear quarters and is annoying me mightily. Call me vexatious but that's how I feel.

it's a really small matter to rant about. What's important is that people understand the meaning no matter how wrong the term is. Relax.

I believe I did say it was a petty rant and I believe I'm entitled to it. It may not be something that bothers you but it bothers me so please don't criticise. I disagree about what's important, the terms I mention are childish and simplistic in my opinion and I like to think this is a site for grown ups, for mature people. I'm quite relaxed thank you and need no prompting in that area.

you did ask the responders about what they felt about your rant. so here's mine. I DID not tell you to stop ranting either. However if we don't want to be criticised then we shouldn't ask for other people's opinion in the first place.
