What's the right maintenance routine for AirConditioning?

We've had this AC for 5 years now, and we seldome have it out for cleaning. Because, it's to tedious to bring it down and up again. After a couple months, it would start to break down, and not able to fight the heat anymore.
What other ways of maintenance do you do for your ACs, other than the general cleaning that it needs after every few months.

Hi jureathome, I understand that every electric appliance has its lifespan. To make it durable I always do my best not to use it too often for longer time. Most of the time I prefer to get the table or ceiling fan switched on in daytime if the weather is not that scorching. I could hardly fall asleep if the weather is sever hot and would turn on the air con certainly. Having proper sleep at night would keep us healthy so it's a must to let the cold air from the device to make the bedroom comfortable with cool air during bedtime. Yeah, other than keep the air con clean it's important as well not to strain it frequently. And it's nice and wise to use fan instead of air con if the weather is not that hot

Of course it would be unbearable to stand the severe hot air in the bedroom. I couldn't tolerate the hotness in my bedroom more than 20 degree C, especially during bedtime. Air con will be on for sure when having nap in the afternoon for day time the temperature usually would be 32 to 36 degree C. I understand that how important air con is to you and yours during day time, especially your husband needs to have proper rest in cool and comfortable room.
it's more comfy to be in the room with air con on. Further more it's more worthy for two to enjoy the coldness. I would like to do the surfing in the bedroom if my husband get the air con on as well

Yeah, the heat is just unbearable. Good thing, power outages are not very common in our place. We are very close to the power plant, so probably that's one reason why we don't get to have frequest outages here.
But, when we have power outages, we would go downstairs because it's less warm there than in the bedroom upstairs without the AC.

Oh, its impossible not to turn on the AC in the bedroom at daytime. And, sometimes, even at nighttime, it'd be too warm to just have a fan on. If we stay downstairs, we can bear just having a fan, but since my husband sleeps during the day, due to his nightshift job, we'd rather stay in the room with him, too, and be more comfortable with the cool AC.

Regular cleaning by a qualified technician is really the best way to maintain the AC. But we could augment this by making sure the filter is also cleaned regularly. If too much dust has accumulated on the filter, it would not only lessen the coldness of the air the AC produces, it also makes the ACs motor work harder. This may not only lessen the ACs life, it would also consume more electricity.

I think that makes sense and is reflecting on our electricity bill.

So, I have to take off the front panel and dust it off? Oh, I think that's easy. Even I can handle that. No need for muscles.
